So I was wondering...

I'm risking a ticket by NOT attaching my front plate here in Illinois, both from police that see me on the road and the meter maids that patrol the lot I park in daily. Are most of you running the same risk, or have you decided to sully the front of your Genny's?

Have you been "warned" or received a ticket? Do YOU care?

When I got the genesis, I remember signing a form stating that I would put up a front license plate. This is a form that the dealer was to submit to California DMV per my understanding.

Are you guys saying your Genesis didn't come with the front plate holder installed? The bastards at the dealership told me they came in that way from the factory, which means I got three holes and paint scratches all over the center of my front bumper for nothing as we do not have a front license plate up here.

They're going to hear me next time I'm in...

Mine came, and still is, in my trunk. They offered to install it, but let me choose.

A front License plate is not required in GA. :D

I hear you! I purchased my car in South Carolina where a front plate is required. But I live in North Carolina where the front plate is not required. When I took the holder off, I had those holes, PLUS indentations from where the installers bolted the dealers plate on too tight. Nice! Oh well. I love that I don't have to have that plate on the front. Looks cleaner.

I live in Pennsylvania where there are no front licence plates required. I wanted a specific color/combo and my dealer could only find find my car at a dealer in Ohio. Well, in Ohio, they use front plates and their dealers automatically install the front brackets. To get the car I wanted, I accepted one that already had the front bracket installed. Since it is the same color as the car, it isn't very obvious but I agree, it does look better without one.

Mine also came with the bracket on, so it has the holes also, but I don't use a front plate (required in MN) and I think the black car helps hide the holes.

Either way, it looks much better with out the front plate. I always thought front license plates look like some sort of nasty growth on a car.

No, they do NOT come that way from the factory - he/she is feeding you a line of BS. These are included in the trunk and installing them is part of dealer prep. If you live in a state that does not require a front plate, my guess is that your dealer did a dealer trade from a state that does require a front plate to get the color you wanted and it was not received as a filled order from the factory. It will be interesting if they 'fess up or not and give you the real story.

I too live in Illinois (Chicago) and it took me quite a while to find the color combination I wanted (black with cashmere 4.6 w/ tech pkg) where the front plate bracket was not installed. Finally found one in Florida....a long but nice drive home.

As for tickets, I have lived in Chicago for more than 10 years and haven't had a front plate on any of my cars. In that time I have received 2 tickets...both at O'Hare parked in the long term lot.

I got mine in NC and we don't have front plates - - so I don't have front holes!

Thankfully my dealer asked . . . :D

Be prepared for tickets, Scott. I went without a front plate on my 530i and gave up after the third ticket and installed the $#%* thing. Both cops & state troopers seem to be pretty focused on this inane requirement (an easy revenue generator, ya know), so you'll likely pay a price for a clean front end.

This is interesting. I believe the Virginia Code states that front license plate is required in the state for all cars that have been designed to carry one. My Genesis came with the front holder already installed.

On the other hand my 2006 Corvette convertible didn't, so I never bothered to install a 3rd-party solution. I never got a ticket (yet) for that. I couldn't envision a front-plate holder on that front-end, but the Genesis looks good with it, at least from where I sit.

I've never head a ticket so far in 11 years of driving and I've never put a front plate on. The many times I've been pulled over throughout the years, not one cop even including state patrol has said anything about it.

The ONLY time a cop asked where my front plate was, was when I got rear ended and I told him it was at home. He said, "oh ok"

Just to clarify one point, South Carolina does not require a front plate. Never has. Heck, they hardly require one on the back, a piece of cardboard with "tag applied for" seems to be enough.

Now admittedly, most vehicles in SC do seem to have a front plate, but it's usually to display which your loyalty to a college team, favorite NASCAR driver, or the confederate flag. Certainly not an official tag.

Interesting. Of course not being a resident of SC, I have no idea about the laws there. A shame that the dealership would choose to put that holder on the car when it is not needed. Takes away from the look of the car. Not everyone wants to display their "colors" on the front of their car! Can't say this about all Hyundai dealerships, but eventually they will catch on to the fact that the Genesis is a high end car that doesn't need, if not required by law, a front end plate holder, a dealer decal slapped on the back, pinstripes, etc. I like a clean car. Just my opinion.

Couldn't agree with you more but it's a little strange that you puchased a car in SC with the front holder. I've lived in SC for the majority of my car buying life and none of them ever had the front plate put on except maybe my Ranger which had a plate with the dealers name. Any possibility the car was a dealer trade from another state?

Good thought on the dealer trade. But I don't think this was the case. All of the cars at this dealer had the front plate holder installed with their dealership logoed paper plate in the holder.

I always make the dealership take all advertising off of my vehicle (stickers, license plate holders, etc.) before I drive it off the lot. The exception was the front plate on the Genesis. I took that off when I got home. I usually tell them I am not going to drive around with their name on my car. If someone asks where I purchased, I will be more than happy to tell them.
