  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

My G70 has been making an intermittent rattle noise for a while now. Took it to the dealer, they heard it, reproduced it, but didn't find the root cause - and now the warranty is up, so it's on me.

Video of rattle

I read through the Stinger service manual, the first recommendation was to check the front anti roll bar and links. Didn't find anything obviously wrong, I removed the front bar and end links completely - the video you see is from a test drive with the bar removed. At the time of the video the car had the stock intercooler and transmission cooler installed.

Have any of y'all had anything similar, or have any advice on where to start looking?

Second video: Second video of rattle

The rattle thing is ruining my enjoyment of the car - any and all advice appreciated.

That almost sounds like a strut mount to me. Personally, I don't like hitting speed bumps that fast anyway...

I’ll look into the strut mount. The dealer (in Bradenton FL) claimed it was a loose/damaged underbody aero panel after 3 visits. Wrong type of sound, fixed the panel and the rattle remained.

I got the impression that the dealer stopped looking the moment they found anything to name as the cause.

Update: put the front end in the air, and backed off the 3 bolts that hold the strut to the body (so I could pull the strut down enough to verify the part number). Tightened the bolts down to the proper torque values and made sure the center strut bolt was torqued correctly as well.

Result: Strut noise is reduced but still present. Looks like I'm on the right track. Anyone have additional input?

Definitely something in the suspension. Here are a few things you should try, if you haven't already:

1. Go over the speed bumps on only one side, left then right. Obviously to see if one side is worse than the other.
2. Go over the speed bumps with the steering wheel turned to one side. This might take a bit of planning but is doable even on the same roadway in that video, making sure no other cars coming or behind you. This might tell you whether it's in the steering linkages. They might make different noises, when actively being pulled one way or the other, vs. simply neutral/relaxed going straight.

Do you have anything aftermarket suspension-wise installed?

Suspension is completely stock, brakes also (except pads).

Tried #1 earlier , right side front is the source of the noise. Verified by removing the front anti roll bar and driving over the same road as in the video.

Of note: had a 4 wheel alignment done last month. Left front had camber within spec (-0.6), right front didn’t (-1.1). All other alignment parameters were able to be set within spec by the alignment.

Will give #2 a try.
