  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Aside from other common issues (i.e. flutter) that may not affect the driveablility of the car, I just cannot seem to get over the sunroof issue with 2015 Genesis 5.0.

I recently had the whole sunroof track replaced ($1k+, under warranty) few weeks ago that took 4 weeks due to significant sound issue. First week it was quite.. then gradually sound is starting to come back.

Not as bad as before (sunroof cover closed, very audible sound) but there are some clicking sound - sounds like something is loose. I also noticed middle rubber piece caved in (rotten?). When weather got real cold for 2 days, it was making loud crackling noise. When car is under the sunlight and heated up, sunroof makes loud popping noise from body flexing.

I honestly think sunroof is unrepairable and this is annoying enough to give up on the car. Since the purchase (12k miles, 10 months) car was at hyundai dealer for at least 2 months for various stuff. Of course came out clean on 45k inspection.. not sure how long I will keep the car with irrating creaking/popping nose from the sunroof; otherwise car is mostly quite.

Unfortunately, we are driving Hyundai brand vehicles. While every manufacturer has their weaknesses, Hyundai's is quality control. Mine squeaks, and rattles occasionally, but not enough to give up on the car. If it was, I'd get a base model without the Pano. I like the ambient lighting it affords so I deal with it when I have to. Closing the shade helps a bit but I always have it open unless it's a scorcher outside. Hopefully, you don't give up on it. They're great cars and the warranty helps with issues that other manufactures can't touch (besides VW). Good luck with it.

I understand your frustration! However there is a TSB on the pano roof, all about lubricating the mechanism and the weather strip around it with silicone oil. I did mine 15 5.0 with the silicone oil and all is well. My car lives inside and I believe that helps. Try to find the TSB on the roof. Gives you the whole procedure on how and where to apply silicone oil. I did all the weather stripping on my car with the oil and it really helps out. Freshens up the weather stripping. Try to out! Good luck

Does anyone know if Hyundai fixed this with their MY16? How about in their Genesis-branded MY17+?

I'm looking to buy either a '16 or '18.

'16s: cheaper, easier to find, but no Apple Carplay/Android Auto on Ultimate Trim. Seems like rattling window is a common problem.
'18s: have Apple Carplay/Android Auto on the Ultimate Trim but their Lexicon system has a "sibilance" issue (high-pitched scratchiness to s-words). People say the safety tech is worse while driving vs. the '16s. Also the vehicle itself is more expensive and harder to find.

2018 G80. Had the pano roof replaced twice, The second time was only the rear glass as it separated from the frame.

shortly after the replacement I started hearing a clicking sound, it ended up being the wiring harness that runs along the headliner, the adhesive they use to hold the clips in place detached and the harness clips and all was bouncing against the metal framing.

dealer was able to fix it by re-securing the clips and then wrapped the wires in some type of foam to keep the harness secure if it occurred again.

there is a thread on here from another member with the same issue and he posted pictures of how the harness was secured and wrapped.

Hopefully they did...I acquired a 16 3.8 Casablanca white ultimate(13K miles..sept 2019) from Fla(I'm in MI)...prior owner purchased extended warranty that was transferred to me...good till 2025 or 100K. So that gives me a little more peace of mind regarding these potential issues. But as of now..having put about 1,500 miles on it..LOVE this car!!!!!. Have no noise or sunroof issues as of yet(knock on wood..:))..Love the power and tech features...looking forward to a few longer road trips come spring/summer. IMO this car really shines on the interstates as a cruiser ...Hope you find a good one either a 16 or 18...good luck and let us know how it all works out

Thanks, Jkon. I do a lot of interstate driving myself (my work commute alone is 1 hour). The lack of Apple Carplay/Android Auto on non-Ultimates is saddening. Otherwise, I'd gun for a '16 Ultimate in a heartbeat.

In my current '10 Nissan Maxima, I currently use the CD slot as the phone holder. It's the PERFECT height (parallel to the windshield wiper stalk) and is great for looking down when using Google Maps or Waze. The CD slot in the Genesis's are quite a bit lower (close to the shifter knob) making it dangerous for me to look down let alone operate the phone.

Currently leaning toward the '18 Ultimate but it's approximately $8k to $10k more expensive than a '16 right now.

I hear ya...sounds like you have analyzed it pretty well...just hope you find one, regardless of model year, that has no issues or has had any issues resolved. I think you will be very happy if you can put your hands on the right one 🤞

I was extremely happy to locate a well sorted 2015 with good mileage. The problem is keeping my mom away from it as she has fallen in love with my Genny and now wants one of her own.

I had that experience two weeks ago when I was vising her. Woke up Sunday morning to a note on the fridge informing me that she and "Genny" were going to church. I think I have found the perfect 2016 3.8 in Manahttan Brown that will make her a very happy mom.

Exactly what silicone oil did you use?
