  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My wife drives a 2012 Genesis R-Spec. It has about 85k miles on it and it has been problem free since we bought it (used with 11k miles) in 2014.

I have been noticing a problem with the car starting quickly over the last few months. Using the push button starter, if the car is cold and has been sitting overbite, the starter turns for probably 5 seconds and the engine starts and runs great. This happens consistently if the car has been sitting idle for several hours. If the car has been sitting for short periods of time, the car will start immediately.

I felt that the car was losing fuel pressure as it set and I found a way (push start button twice with foot off the brake) to turn the fuel pump on before starting the engine and if I let the pump run for 5 or so seconds and then try to start the car it starts immediately. I have no check engine lights coming on.

I suspect that the car has a leaky check valve that is allowing the car to slowly lose fuel pressure. If I am correct, is the check valve built into the fuel pump (I suspect it is) or is it located somewhere on the car.

Also am I on the right track? Is there a Shrader valve on this engine where I can monitor fuel pressure with a gauge? It appears a fuel pump replacement is a relatively expensive repair as well as pretty labor intensive.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I dont ever advocate using one of those Fuel system cleaner, but I was using AMSOIL PI cleaner (just for the hell of it since my car is giving such a long life), it has some kind of additive called PEA, lots of people sworn by it, and it does seem like it does something (by the way my car Idles, it did throw a code while I was driving but after that tank it seems to work and idle smoother and the code never came back). Your problems may be a simple fix like that or a bigger fixed, but if I were you, I give it a shot, I checked Ebay for a fuel pump and have a local mechanic do it for way cheaper.
