Fueling up issues

2019 G70: For the first year of ownership I had zero problems fueling up ... I had a normal car.

A few months ago though, out of the blue, I could not get gas pumps to work for more than a few seconds before clicking off. If I'm lucky, I can get fuel to flow for 15-20 seconds; that's it. Setting the nozzle up and walking away is a literal impossibility.

I've twisted and turned the nozzle every possible direction; I've inserted the nozzle deep, shallow, and everywhere in between; and I have tried to vary the flow rate, with the trigger; but nothing works. The gas flows and almost immediately starts gurgling as if the tank is full, which triggers the nozzle to click off. And yes, I've tried multiple gas stations with the same result.

It's as if the line is blocked.

It's very frustrating, as you might imagine. I've had it in the shop twice for extended periods and they've replaced the sensors and the CCV (I think), but nothing has helped.

Can anyone shed some light on what the issue might be? The dealership can't figure it out.

It's usually an issue with the tank venting. The charcoal canister could be saturated with gasoline (happens if you overfill the tank), a vent hose could be clogged (a particular kind of spider likes to make its home there), or the vent valve might be stuck closed. It seems like there should be a step by step troubleshooting procedure the dealer could use to figure it out.

I've forwarded your assessment to the dealer's service guy and await a response. Thanks for your input.

After a half dozen trips to the shop and several fruitless efforts to fix the problem, it has finally been diagnosed and fixed!

Upon removing the fuel filler neck for replacement they found what was causing the issue. The filler hose from the filler neck to the gas tank was actually separating inside and coming apart. When you would look inside the hose you could see what looks like a big bubble on the inside of the hose causing the blockage. The outside of the hose looked normal. The inside layer was bulging. The failure choked the line so fuel could not enter the tank except at a very, very low rate. Adding fuel at a high rate resulted in blockage that caused a gurgling backflow that then stopped the pump from pumping (clicking off).

Go back to my original message where I said "It's as if the line is blocked." Well, I was 100 percent correct. If only the dealer would have taken heed sooner.
