  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why no g70 coupe..? After owning Genesis Coupe for years was really looking for s 2 door refresh... And that powerplant is going to be sick!

Usually those decisions come down to sales volume and $$$. They will be bringing on the SUV and CUV as that is where the money is. Between Hyundai and Geneses there will be a bunch of them from what I read from Auto Week. Including a diesel and battery electric. With all the new models coming out in the next few years the engineering and tooling investment is huge. The couple is one of the smallest number of sales so it may be long time, if ever, but would be nice to see.

Yes it would be nice to battle with Infiniti and lexus coupes...

I heard somewhere that the coupe will be released in the 2021-to-2022 time frame. The revious Genesis coupe was a gorgeous car. Sales of this configuration may be modest but I bet if the G70 sedan does well, especially in its sportier guises, Genesis will be moved to offer a coupe again. But I won't be waiting that long.

^ A bit earlier than that - supposed to get the coupe by 2020, but of course, things could change.

Remains to be seen if the entry-level coupe will be just a 2-door version of the G70 or a distinctly styled coupe; hoping for a production version of the sexy Venace concept, but have my doubts about that happening.

Also, Genesis has plans for a halo flagship GT down the road.

I think something new and fresh would fare better than just a G70 with 2 doors. The G70 is a nice looking car with lots of appeal but people who are attracted to a coupe would likely be looking for something bolder and wouldn't be as concerned with rear seat room. Actually, a couple with a striking look and a pretty vestigial rear seat that gave more styling freedom might be nice. I guess that would be something closer to the Venace concept. But I agree that Genesis isn't likely to take that big a gamble. Extreme cars appeal to enthusiasts but not necessarily to the masses who need to buy them to make them a success. The Hyudai Genesis coupe was actually a handsome car, with some cues reminiscent of the Infiniti coupe of the era. It was noticeably different from the sedan of the same period. If Genesis can make a similar distinction, it may work well.

I think companies have to do a balancing act of sorts, continuing to produce new models but not making existing owners feel that their cars quickly become obsolete. It's sort of a hallmark of premium car brands that they have designs with staying power. Part of that is giving subsequent years' versions of the same model relatively minor changes. The coupe obviously will be a different model than the sedan and cosmetic changes would be expected. But if Genesis holds back on significant performance enhancements on the G70 sedan, only to push them out with the coupe, sedan buyers may feel cheated. Thus, the required balancing act for the manufacturer. Well, we'll know how the US version of the sedan turns out in a few months and it'll still be at least a couple of years before we find out what the coupe will be.

Just stumbled onto this:

infiniti-q80-inspiration-concept.webp

which has some similarities to this:

genesis-new-york-concept-10-HR.webp

Lots of designers thinking along the same lines -- a fastback coupe with squinty-eye headlights, fender vents, and a steeply raked windshield. Both look nice, actually.
