  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone see major discrepancies in tire gauge and tpms readouts? Trying to figure out which is more accurate/which I should follow. I’m seeing about a 3lb difference between gauge at tire (cold) and dash (cold). Been using the same gauge for years. Any insight is much appreciated.

I think my readings were within about 1psi.

Regardless of how accurate TPMS readings appear to be in the dash, they should be used for safety check only and not for setting tire pressure. Some mfrs do ambient temp compensation, so you never know how the readings are calibrated in any instance. Besides, if you are comparing two different gauge/sensors, you don't really know which one is more accurate anyway.

I keep a precision dial gauge in the garage and use it as reference for pencil-type gauge I keep in each vehicle. I keep a record of what each pencil gauge reads at the same reference pressure on the precision dial gauge. I can then used each pencil gauge to set tire pressure accurately/consistently even if I'm not at my own garage.

Occasionally, I recheck several of the pencil gauges against the precision dial gauge, to see if the references have changed.
