  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G80 3.3L engine vs G380 3.8L engine

Mpg isn't all that bad on those kinds of trips & speeds either - I got ~24.5 on a trip from Texas to South Carolina. Generally going around 80-85mph...
Yes I totally agree. I am up around 27 all the way up to 31 on the roads where 65mph is the max you can go. Either way love the mpg and just love the car. Love My Genny!!@#

I'm sure I wouldn't notice much difference either, my 3.8l is the fastest car I ever drove. My butt dyno tells me its just as good as my buddies 80's 5.0 mustang from high school. In my small town its all SUV's and pickups, the few sports cars in town are classics, never get a real chance to test it. I keep ahead of everyone off the line just for fun and to see if they will try to push it,

Probably true - an 80's 5.0 Mustang only had about 200 something hp on a good day. The 3.8 Genesis has 311hp and more gear ratios to play with...

The 3.3 TT AWD Sport is a lot faster than my 2016 3.8 AWD.Then again my 3.8 is quicker than my 6.75 Litre Turbo R Bentley. It was the "quintessential power trip" 0-60 in 6.9 seconds back in 1989. My 92 MB500SL is 0-60 in about 6 seconds too. @ 74 I am happy with the performance of all my cars. There's an ass for every seat ;) !

1981 is when the cat converter became mandatory. In the '70s you had all sorts of pollution controls so even the big engines were sluggish. A 1975 Chevy Camero with the 350 engine had a 0-60 time of 10.9 seconds.

CAMARO there ain't no E in that word.

1970s cars after 1974 were gutless wonders, big massive displacement, itty bitty power.. My first car was a 1978 Trans Am 6.6L 220 hp 320 lb.ft, all that smog crap on it.

compare that to a 1970 6.6L which was 345hp 429 lb.ft. same motor different government requirements.

After '74 everything was low compression for emissions & so the primitive cats could live. Something like 8.5:1 was "high performance". Most normally aspirated motors now are much higher. I think the V8 Tau is around 11.5:1...

yeah I know, gooberment regualtions.

I love that my '39 is exempt from all that, even running a modern motor, they base it on the body year, not the motor year.

You're probably right... I knew that it was more than 11 : 1
Yeah 11.8:1 is very high in contrast to those

What is the 39? Ford ? Chevy?

Not quite but whatever... Older engines in the 30's might have gone 6 or 7 : 1 at the most.

According to Car & Driver the 3.3 TT V6 & the V8 are about equal in acceleration. The TT is about a tenth quicker to 60, but the V8 starts pulling away at higher speeds.

The 3.3T has more torque down low, all the Genesis V8s are much more refined (have owned one 4.6, a 2012 5.0 and a 2015 5.0) and have more top-end.

I'm thinking a purchase of 2017-2021 Genesis AWD in the future. I've had Hyundai 3.8s and 2.0 turbos. Liked them both at 71Iwant a snazzy Genesis G80. I read about the 3.3 turbo I really don't need a 0-60 @ 3.5 but like the juice. Are these cars reasonable dependable and serviced. Otherwise I'll buy another Hyundai.
