  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello, I have a brand new G80 Sport 3.3T which has less than 1000 miles.

Recently, I've started to hear this whining/humming/squealing noise when I hit the brakes and bring the car down to below 35 mph. The noise is subtle so initially I must have missed it. But once you hear it, it is definitely audible. It's a relatively high-pitch screeching sound but sort of like a whispering mouse. The noise continues until the car has come to a stop and typically goes away when I accelerate above 35 mph. Also, it is sporadic - it'll happen sometimes but not all the time.

The only thing consistent is that when the noise is ongoing, if I turn off the A/C, it immediately goes away. So I think it may be related to the compressor but some threads in other forums point towards the idler pulley. Has anyone else experienced this?

I took it the dealership/service center today and they couldn't replicate the issue. But as I drove back, it was clearly there and I know I can make it go away by turning off the A/C.

Why don’t you just drive with the service guy and make it happen for them to hear. Takes up your time but at least it will get the job done.

That would seem to be the best and probably the only way to remedy the problem. And it is important that Genesis is aware of the problem in that it might affect all of these cars. I have a good friend who just purchased one last week. I'll check with him to see if he has experienced anything of the sort.

Take the service guy along and let us know what he says. I'm curious myself.

If you want it to stop, definitely have a service guy get in the car.
