  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Gas mileage/ new car break in period?

S-thon

I noticed an average speed of 15 MPH on your trip odo. That's a lot of stop and go, and I wouldn't be surprised at that kind of mileage making 4000 pound of car start and stop. I've had some 15 MPG trips and they were a lot of stoplights and cold engines.

In North Dallas I can usually drive a mile on a surface street without stopping, sometimes 2 or 3 miles. Southern CA would be a different story.

I have had my Genesis for almost a week, i am currently getting 15.6 MPG.

I have been using eco mode almost 98% of the time, and driving slow a decent amount of the time. highest it went was 15.9 so far.

Yeah there's a difference...the weight of their right feet.

I've been driving since I was 14 and haven't had any issues with speeding, or "my right foot" . I'm a pretty conservative driver...

So your thinking the issue could be related to my short trips? I also drove maybe 50 miles to Oceanside and maybe seen an 18 but still not 26. The 15 mph is usually because I'm in the city.

I have a 4 mile commute, and if I hit a few red lights the trip MPG will show 15 with a cold engine. If the engine is warm and I hit all the lights green I've gotten 27 MPG on the same trip.

im also on like my fifth tank of gas and still disappointedly i checked my reader and of course under 300 miles per tank. Disappointed ;(

No reason to be disappointed. All that start stop driving is killing your average.

EPA estimate for city driving with the V6 AWD is 16 mpg, and that's at 21mph. Your 15.1 mpg average is at an even slower 16 mph.

So basically my problems will be quelled if I have a warmer engine, and longer trips?

Don't trust the cars computer either. Do your own calculations. Here is my past fill-ups since last October showing the difference from the cars computer to the actual calculations. There is varying car driver mode settings, travel methods (city vs highway) so that is why you see a varying MPG from fill-up to fill-up.

21.5 MPG Computer / 20.05 MPG Calculated
20.9 MPG Computer / 19.31 MPG Calculated
20.5 MPG Computer / 18.90 MPG Calculated
23.3 MPG Computer / 21.99 MPG Calculated
23.9 MPG Computer / 21.78 MPG Calculated
21.9 MPG Computer / 20.84 MPG Calculated
20.7 MPG Computer / 18.91 MPG Calculated
22.0 MPG Computer / 20.45 MPG Calculated
21.9 MPG Computer / 20.20 MPG Calculated
21.3 MPG Computer / 19.38 MPG Calculated
17.8 MPG Computer / 20.11 MPG Calculated
16.6 MPG Computer / 15.22 MPG Calculated
18.4 MPG Computer / 16.82 MPG Calculated
25.0 MPG Computer / 22.38 MPG Calculated
21.6 MPG Computer / 20.12 MPG Calculated
18.9 MPG Computer / 17.40 MPG Calculated
19.2 MPG Computer / 17.77 MPG Calculated
21.5 MPG Computer / 19.06 MPG Calculated
21.7 MPG Computer / 19.98 MPG Calculated
21.2 MPG Computer / 19.46 MPG Calculated
21.0 MPG Computer / 18.83 MPG Calculated

I just filled up yesterday and did the calculations and it was pretty accurate.

My first tank fill up, computer read 17.9 MPG, my calculations were 18.1 MPG. I think the reason for my mileage being so low is cold starts every morning @6AM and 7 mile trip to work but a lot of stopping and starting at lights.

Will calculate again this gas tank. I used different gas this time and my exhaust almost seems quieter? can the quality of the gas affect the loudness of the exhaust?

I just completed a trip from Cincinnati to Gadsden, AL. I made the trip on a single tank of regular gas (449 miles). I averaged 67 mph and got 27.4 mpg calculated. The trip computer said 28.1 mpg.

Average of 67, meaning that includes any stops for food or bathroom break? And city miles out to highway and to destination in town? Which means on road you were going in the 70s? If so, good mileage especially with regular.

Correct. I had the cruise set most of the way at 76mph. Slower through the congested areas. I might have been able to do slightly better on flat terrain. There are a lot of hills in KY and TN.

Yea.. You ran through Chattanooga on they way down? That area and south is hilly. And you had luggage, and people load I bet.. Not bad at all.
