  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Super annoying. When I'm filling the car with gas (I have the 5.0 so that's often) the gas stops flowing before the tank is full about 10 times per fill up. Not sure why it keeps thinking it is full when clearly it isn't.

I had this happen to me once at one station, but luckily have not had it happen again. Do you have it happen to you at different stations, or always the same one?

Ive had that, normally when i have the car running

Sounds like an overactive safety mechanism on the pump. The shape of the tank and the filling system on the car can have some effect, but it's primarily the pump in control of the shutoff.

I have only been filling up at Mobil stations (not the same one twice) and have had no issues so far. What gas stations are you using?

I have no issues whatsoever. Is this happening at all gas stations or are you filling up at the same place all the time?

I always fill up at Safeway but I did so with my 4.6 and it never happened which is why I think it is a car issue and not a pump issue.

Could be a combination of both. Try another station.

Personally, I would try one of these www.toptiergas.com brands:

  • 76 Stations
  • Aloha Petroleum
  • ARCO
  • BP
  • Chevron
  • Conoco
  • Costco Wholesale
  • CountryMark
  • Entec Stations
  • Express Convenience Centers
  • Exxon
  • Hawaii Fueling Network (HFN)
  • Holiday Stationstores
  • Kwik Trip / Kwik Star
  • MFA Oil Co.
  • Mobil
  • Ohana Fuels
  • Phillips 66
  • Quik Trip
  • Road Ranger
  • Scheirl Oil
  • Shell
  • SuperAmerica
  • Texaco
  • Tri-Par Oil Co.

There are a few pumps where this will happen to me.

It is always the same pump at the same station...

If you pull the nozzle out a bit, it changes the angle it enters the fill tube, that has corrected the problem a few times at the same station... same pump.

You just found the problem. The design of the pump nozzle and your car seem to clash. Go to another station and I am sure you will have no issues. The design on the 4.6 cannot be compared to the new design, might as well be comparing apples to oranges.

I'll try different pumps at Safeway. The problem is that I buy my groceries at Safeway and get a 20 cent per liter discount on gas because of it. While annoying, the problem isn't worth giving up that discount. Thanks for the replies!

Happened on my 2012 3.8 tech. Gas pump would keep cutting off at several different stations. Took it in to the dealer and they replaced a part in the gas tank that fixed the problem.

Do you know what part they replaced?

Hi, Went back to look up the repair record, the dealer replaced the charcoal canister/vapor recovery system.

Thanks for looking! I puzzled how that would affect the cutoff on the pump. Costco is one that has always been a problem, because they tend to run their pumps at high pressure. Holding the filler handle at about the 4 o'clock position usually makes it possible to set the filler on the slowest notch.
