  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
No Genesis Yet!
I have been looking at the 2019 Genesis G80 V6 3.3T Sport car but then found the 2018-19 Genesis G80 V8 5.0L Ultimate. I don’t know which one I should get!! The 3.3T has the sporty exterior and interior look, such as the carbon fiber interior. The 5.0L has a classy look with 420 hp. I prefer the 3.3T but still undecided. I have other options such as the 2018 Kia Stinger GT2. Really invested in buying a Korean manufactured car. Or say f*ck it and buy a 2018 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400…

Maybe G70???

NEED RECOMMENDATIONS!!

Get the V8 if you want more of a luxury car. Performance is about the same, fuel economy is about the same. There's less NVH with a V8.

The Red Sport is tempting, but I'd go Hyundai/Genesis over Nissan/Infiniti. Hyundai's have better infotainment systems, are more reliable, and offer better bang for the buck.

Nothing wrong with the 3.3T, but I'd go 5.0 V8 all day. Just because...V8.

Agree. The 5.0 is a nice engine.

that’s what im saying!
400 hp is crazy but the cost of reliability and tech

As a personal opinion I’d say go with the V8 since it’s more reliable robust engine compared to the 3.3. I have the 2019 V8 Ultimate Htrac and I’m very happy with the car, the fuel economy it’s really good which it averages 19 mpg for this type of engine when it’s rated below that from factory.
Sometimes I felt like I had to choose the 3.3 instead since it has better options to modify it and make it faster compared to the Tau V8 but overall I don’t regret choosing this car.

so seems like everyone is recommending the 5.0 over the 3.3

Nissan/Infiniti are much easier to use the tech (the couple that I've been in) versus Hy/Gen.
We are pretty disappointed in our Genesis experience so far and wish we'd gone with an american or japanese model where you can typically decipher the tech without one of the 5 Genesis manuals in your hand.

V8's are wonderful but big and heavy. Some like that feel, others don't.
I'll always err on the side of sportier and lighter making a more engaging drivers car.
Others the 400 hp :)

Have you driven either one? Based on your post it doesn't sound like it. There comes a point where you have to go check out the cars for yourself. The smaller turbo options often feel more lively. Unfortunately fuelly.com doesn't have enough entries for these cars to give a good feel for fuel economy differences.

I really don't understand that post regarding confusing tech. I think it's great and easy to use. I prefer the hyundai/genesis tech over any other car I've driven.

You also mentioned in passing the G70. The G70 has a very different feel compared to the G80. If a sportier experience is your preference the G70 may be the car for you.

Thing with Japanese car companies is that they're rather conservative... which makes them boring and familiar... they stick with what works. That's why until recently, Toyota was still selling 15 year old trucks. They update them once in a while with a facelift but they're essentially same vehicle. The upside is that Japanese cars are reliable because they're of old designs. Why mess with what ain't broke?

Hyundai was one of the first, if not the first cars to get Android Auto... Toyota didn't start getting Android Auto until 2020... 5 years after Hyundai's 2015 Sonata and Genesis.

I would go with the V8 !
I have a 15 5.0 Ultimate, and ABSOLUTELY LOVE the smooth Quiet Acceleration of the V8.

Can’t you only get the v8 with rwd in the USA? I thought that was the case which then I’d ask the op how important awd is?

I learned a new term today NVH. Thanks.

You can get AWD with V8.

Do not buy any Hyundai 2019 car. Has 3G connect service which stops operating at the end of 2022. Purchase a 2020 model which has a 4G connect service if you like voice-activated guidance.

As for V8 vs 3.3T. Had a 2018 G80 3.3T, and purchased a 2020 3.3T because liked the 4G connect service. Believe the G80 3.3T with AWD is the superior car. Go to "Car and Driver" and get specs on each. Also owned a 2016 G80 with 3.8L. All these cars are great cars. Also, note Genesis no longer offers a V8, 3.5T is top of the line now.
