Genesis G80 Owner Roll Call!

There is a temporary shortage of Genesis so dealers are not discounting so much.
Genesis sold about 600 cars nationwide in August. I counted that there are a total of about 100 new G80 and G90 models in the Los Angeles/Orange County area so doesn't seem to be a shortage. What has been hurting sales is not a shortage but that there has been zero advertising. I bought my 3.3T G80 for $46,500 with 900 miles in San Jose but the Los Angeles dealers are trying to sell them for $49K - $51K. Very little discounting on the new 2018 models. Very little knowledge of the Genesis line from the sales force. Strange strategy for Hyundai to go silent on advertising Genesis while a pile of unsold cars are on dealers lots unless they are not planning to ship 2019 models until before the end of the year.

There hasn't been advertising or much in the way of incentives/discounting b/c there is a shortage in supply (whatever is left of the '18MY).

Under normal sales volume (1st Q of this year), there is about a 30 day supply of the G80 and G90 left.

W/ no certainty as to the time period when Genesis will get all the approvals/licensing - made no sense for Genesis to promote sales.

Once everything is settled, likely will be a major advertising push (for the G70 and '19MY G80 and G90) and incentives to get rid of what's left of the old stock.

I agree and at that point they won't be able to give away the 2018's that they have been hoarding

I got my 2018 G80 3.8 AWD Manhattan Brown/Beige July of 2017. I wanted a Patagonia Blue/ Beige but Genesis did not make that color in 2018, only 2017. They did however show a 2018 Patagonia Blue with beige interior at an auto show.....I WANT THAT CAR! Anyone know how to get THAT car. It exists, because I saw it online. (it may be the only one in the world--- for that show).

Additionally, I want the style wheels that are on the 5.0. Are there any 5.0 owners out there that like the 3.8 wheels better? Want to trade?

You are absolutely right about the color. I love it. It really sparkles in the sun!

So perplexing that they didn't even offer that color in 2018. I understand that it was their most popular color in 2017 (according to the dealerships that i visited.).

Been lurking around the forums for a while, was hoping to wait a year and pick up a G70 next fall until my Q5 had an(other) unexpected repair bill and instead pulled the trigger on a '15 CPO Genesis. Dealer swapped the Hyundai badge for wings on the trunk. Really impressed with the car so far.

Just got home from the dealership - proud new owner of a 2018 Genesis G80. Got the RWD 3.8L with the Ultimate package in Caspian Black with the classy ivory interior. So thrilled to finally be part of this excellent community!

According to Cars.com, there are fewer than 1k 2018MY G80's and 250 G90's in stock.

So it seems, once the 2019MY have started to hit the lots, Genesis has been moving the leftover 2018 vehicles.

From July through September Genesis has averaged about 400 G80 and 130 G90 sales nationwide with September sales being substantially below the 3 month average. Based upon September sales there are over two month worth of sales on the lots - so, I don't understand how you can conclude that the cars have been 'moving'. Rather I would say that there is a glut of cars on the lots that will be extremely hard to move once the 2019s arrive.

Uhh, I'm well aware of that (and the reasons for the slow-down in sales).

But the last time I had checked inventory, there were about double the G80's and G90's in stock.

As the 2019's started to hit the lots, Genesis has started advertising and increased incentives on the 2018's, so sales have seen an uptick recently.

Ohayo! <good morning in japanese, but I like using it as a honorifc greeting> to the supporters of Genesis.

Ok. Here's my story. this Hyundai-ship had a once in a year VIP sale. I came on the last day. I met Denny, Product specialist. WE made some small talk and he asked me what I wanted. Within 3 minutes I asked about the G-g-gensis. Lo and be hold, they got a Manager demo. Ha! I am licking my chops. A 2017 G80 Ultima (they should use this marketing name). Actually, "Ultima" was a hack and slash, adventure rpg game back in the late mid to late 90s. Very popular back then and was a pioneering platform for what has become today. Might n Magic. Skyrim. WoW. Witicher's Hunt. Anyhow, you get the underlining connotation.

Denny, more like a sales agent, put me through the rounds. First, test run. Wow. Road noise barely audible and same with the V8. A niggle I have was highway road noise. Acceleration smooth and powerful. the Handling I felt was sturdy with accurate response compared to my current my 2016 Sonata 2.0T Ultima ;) was the opposite. The braking was a pleasure as it was excellent in how I can sense the pressure of the brake pedal wihle my Sonata is rather spongy. I love the "holographic" display. Techware, and detailing, instrument cluster, sound system, and HUD were all impressive to the eyes, and ears.

Ok. Ride is done. Back in the office or rather the pressure chamber I am about to endure. hehe Well, Rookie Denny try the fast one, did a quote with the trade-in for my Sonata for 7000CAD (yeah right, like I was born a lemming) and said, "Sign and give me your credit card." I didn't even budge. I just used subtle, passive pressure - playing up and turning it against him cuz I knew they were desperate to sell it and knew I wanted it. So he comes back with another offer with trade value of 10K. Uh uh. Not a chance. So I play-act. I explain my financial situation, my ongoing injury claim (sever rear-end impact) and my out-of-pocket expenses, and job loss. He comes back with an offer of no payments for 3 months. Nope. 6 months. Nope. I play it up saying I cannot afford to do this due to all these fiscal responsibilities that are stretching me out thin. and my GF would fry my ass if I commit. kek

So, finally, the next tactic was to bring in, I guess, the sales manager. Tactic after tactic. The first one, he permitted another drop of 2200+CAD. I said I'll still pass and was ready to leave. 2nd tactic, VIP package with complimentary maintenance package up to 100K KM. Woohoo! But NOT..
So he said he give a financial perk. Add 3 months without payment with finance of 84 months but I can pay lump sums to swiftly pay off the full selling price with no penalties or fees. So la dee da.

Sold! 42000+CAD + Protection Package (3M, leaather, undercoating, triple clearcoating, remote starter, replacement FOB, lifetime warranty, etc..) OTD

Did I get deal of a steal? Dang G8TY had only 16K KM.
