  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've test driven the V6 Genesis twice (one base (2009), one loaded (2011)). It has all the comfort, looks, and amenities that I could ever want (aside from the lack of panoramic roof and hard drive space for ripping music--I can deal without fold-down seats too). I've driven almost everything--A4, G, 5-Series, Maxima, CC, TSX, Regal, Sonata, MKZ, SHO,..you name it. This car's value just leaves such a satisfying impression...I'd probably get the 2011 V8, because if one is looking to get a great combination of tech features, it's probably just the better deal.

For me, the car isn't quite as sporty as I would prefer however. I'm probably one of the younger members here, so I'm willing to sacrifice a little comfort for some added roadholding. I figure a grand or so on some mods should do the trick though.

I put a few mods on my 2007 Ford Fusion and it has improved handling significantly (including brake pads, shocks, springs, brake lines..etc). If I go for the Genesis, I'd definitely get a few things done, such as some suspension lowering springs and some sport shocks..

So, has anyone here make any performance-specific mods on their Genesis to improve handling?

There are some lowering springs a few guys have used on here. Unfortunately there aren't a whole lot of aftermarket options on the sedan at the moment. The coupe has a lot more in the way of modding options.

I wonder if there's any compatibility with the coupe... at least with just a small part. Looking at tanabe's list for the Genesis Coupe .... my sister currently owns one and wants to do some small chasis stuff done.

I guess I should've put this in the suspension/brakes forum..

But, on the other hand, maybe not. That forum seems three times less active than this one. :p

While biased towards suspension, your post was directed toward modding in general, so I left it in here.

If you want "Sporty" try the '11 V8 model. The power this car produces is like a rocket at a traffic light. I owned a BMW 535i with the luxury and sport package and I remember taking the car off the lot for the forst time and punching it at a traffic light and it was exactly the same feeling.

The Genesis is not a sports car. However, with the V8 engine, it provides the best balance between luxury and sport.

I'm getting off my soap box now!

I have no complaints or reservations about the power of the car...I'm talking about the driving dynamics, steering, and handling of the car--which is what truly makes a sporty car sporty. Any car can deliver smooth, crushing power. The Genesis is a premium car that has tighter suspension than most large cars to add a more of a sporty feeling of the car.

A couple of owners have lowered the car using aftermarket springs. H&R is said to be developing springs. Ask TireRack about this. My sense is that there is just not much to play with. The OEM springs are comparatively stiff with not a lot of spring travel.

One thing I did do, and it is easy and cheap, is to change the soft rubber sway bar bushings for poly bushings from Energy Suspension. You have to measure your sway bar diameters. These bushings enhanced roll compliance and "tightened" handling a bit, with no material suspension degrading.

My little mods did not make give this car BMW handling. I drove, back-to-back, my V8 Genesis so modified against a 633 (sic) BMW convertible over curvy bumpy roads at a moderate pace. The BMW felt tighter, more connected and more composed.

Can't really match the prowess of a BMW. Many have come close, but, it's truly remarkable how well those machines are made.

My son lowered his Jetta and claims it handles "so much better" I think it looks dumb and rides very stiff, he definately tightened up the suspension and without changing it back before selling the car, I think it will be impossible to sell. I would never buy a Genesis with a harder ride than it already has. Comfort is key for most people.
