The book of Hyundai’s Genesis will add a new chapter at next week’s New York Auto Show with a four-door sports sedan study that may preview the brand’s upcoming BMW 3-Series competitor.

It’s named the New York Concept, and according to a short and rather vague statement from Genesis, it “hints to the athletic elegance of the four-door sports sedan, expressing the design direction that will distinguish forthcoming Genesis products”.

If the above is an accurate rendering of the New York concept and Hyundai brings the G70 close to it in production form and not watered down too much (don't see why they can't keep the headlight design as is w/ the lighting tech these days) - should be a winner.

The front-end is what BMW designs used to be (clean and aggressive lines); makes the front fascia of the G80 and G90 look a bit dowdy in comparison.

What can be seen looks really good. Can’t wait to see it and what’s under the hood.

kinda disappointed in the BMW 3 reference. I was hoping for a big luxury 2 door coupe that would go head to head with the BMW 8. Still waiting to see one in person... not sure if I should hold off for the Genesis G70 coupe or make a dash and buy the Genesis G90.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, along with the G90, at the New York Auto Show. I understand the G80 will initially just mean a new badge on the current Hyundai Genesis, but that's already a great automobile. Real growth will be in near future when the two CUVs come to production.

The G70 is the 4 door sedan that is aimed to compete with BMW 3 series.

There is another model planned that will be a lux 2 door coupe. IIRC, it's planned to be based on the G80 platform (current Genesis). Currently it's been referred to as the Vision G Coupe.

See HERE

Not sure if they have given this one a number yet.

It'll be interesting to see just how sporty they make the G70. The current Genesis vehicles tend to be softer (more luxury, less sport) than most of the competition, but the market for smaller cars tend to be more sport-oriented. The trick is to strike a balance between usable performance and handling without going too harsh.

I would surmise that Hyundai is intending to make the G70 a sports sedan as opposed to more of luxo cruiser, esp. as it is rumored to be the 1st Genesis model likely to get the N-performance line.

But at the same time, as per usual, the G70 will likely be larger (and heavier) than most of the other sedans in the segment and hence, won't be as tossable as something like the ATS.

Well than hopefully they price the G70 accordingly...

More info on the show car here.

Show-car makes 245HP from a 2.0L direct injection diesel (aren't all diesels direct injection?) coupled with a hybrid drive system.

The back and sides don't live up to the promise of the front:

Interior rendering -

Well than hopefully they price the G70 accordingly...

Think Hyundai will price the G70 around where the 1G started (presuming NA V6 - either the 3.3 or 3.8) - so around $32-33k.

Would undercut the V6 Infiniti Q60 ($37k+) and the IS350 ($41k) nicely and give it a good $8-9k separation from the G80 (presuming after MCE, will start around $40-41k).

Probably will get a 2.0T down the road (Hyundai needs to work on a new 2.0T or heavily revise the one they have) which would be priced lower.

Now, if Hyundai really makes the interior something special, then add $1k or so.

I think it's a nice looking car and I get the feeling the production version will look better. It's a little too "out there" for me as it stands. So toning it down a little bit will likely please my eyes...
