  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ended before it began. I'm test-driving my short list of cars about a year out from when I plan to buy. Mini JCW, Genesis G70, BMW 3/4 series. Test drove the Mini last weekend, it's a fun car. Stopped by Genesis of Madison, but they're too new, no cars yet 😆

Stopped at Genesis of Janesville Hyundai today, said they don't let anyone test drive the cars unless they agree to terms and do a credit pull. Not worth having a test drive on my credit report for 2 years 🤷‍♂️. Apparently I was rightfully skeptical about the first luxury dealer (outside of Lincoln) in my little town. If it's a fight to test drive a car, I imagine they're going to fight on everything like warranty fixes, service loaners, etc. That's ok, the Madison store said they'd give me a call once they get their first vehicles :)

Wow. I do ok but I don't make a ton of money. However, my credit score can't get any higher. That comes from not making stupid ass decisions like taking a credit hit for a test drive. Good work on the right decision.

Although, a credit pull can be done without showing up as a hard hit. Some insurance companies do this (called a "soft pull"). Not sure if that's what a dealer would do but it's a good chance it is if I had to guess. Either way I wouldn't have done it either.

Good move. I've heard of dealers doing that but never ran into it.

One dealer would not talk numbers until they did a check. Salesman chocked when he saw what is was and then kissed my ass. He would not come down to what I wanted though. Left there, drove 30 miles up the road and bought the identical car. I got the last laugh when he called two days later with a better deal.

I emailed the salesperson I talked to at Genesis of Madison and told him about my experience. He says they have no unnecessary steps before taking a test drive. I’ll leave a review after they take some inventory and I get my hands on one

I am from Janesville originally, If you want a good deal, take an hour drive to Rosen Genesis in Algonquin, Illinois. I got a great deal on my 2018 G80 Ultimate.

Wow, the standard in Houston for a test drive is a copy of your DL and insurance card.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I need my 2018 GPS information system updated. Needs to be done at a dealer. Covered by warranty. I asked to be scheduled in Janesville, per request via their website. That was 8 days ago, still no response. Guess I will make that drive to Rosen Genesis in Algonquin, Illinois.

it seems useless to use the app to make an appointment. You have to call and speak to someone in service.

Their website has a specific link, schedule service here. However it looks like you are correct, at least in this case

Always pisses me off when a dealer has requirements for a test drive.
its a TEST DRIVE, I am TESTING to see if i like the car, doesn’t matter if I am 1 day or 1 year out from buying.

I‘ve had my drivers license and/or insurance card held hostage during a test drive, they usually require a copy to be sure you are licensed and covered but then they won’t return them and keep pressuring a sale.

I’ve experienced the “we don’t allow test drives unless you are going to buy” B.S. As well

dealerships that pull this crap will never see my business.

‘why does it have to be done at the dealer? mapnsoft Has a site that you register on, then process the free upgrade and they send you the SD card.

you start car, insert card, drive for 30-40 minutes while it updates and done.

I have a 2018 and have done this 3 times now, grant the dealership did do the first one for me at the time of purchase as courtesy because I asked, but they didn’t actually need to you can do it yourself.

Is yours an Ultimate? I was told the Ultimate had to be done at a dealer, something about having a different GPS information system. If this isn't true, I wouldn't mind doing it.

mine is a sport which has the same system as the ultimate for 2018.

process the upgrade and have them mail you the SD (you can't download if it is under the "free" service for 3 years)

at check out there is an option to "bill to Genesis"

receive the SD, insert it yourself and update.

word of caution, It takes approx. 40 minutes, during which time the radio/gps is useless, no sound, no function only a progress bar,

do it when you can drive for 40 minutes or so, DO NOT turn the car off during the process, it can brick your unit as it is a firmware load.

I do mine on my commute to work., just listen to music through my phone during that time, oh yeah keep the phone unplugged from USB during the process.

Did mine a couple of times. That may have been true of older models that needed a USB stick in addition to the SD card.

Thanks for the info. Appreciate it. I went to mapnsoft, entered my vin and elected to have GMA pay at check out and they say the update is on it's way. v 13.5 O currently v 10 in the car. I take it is ok to go directly to 13.5 skip the ones in the middle. Thanks again very helpful. At this point I have no idea where the sd card goes. I was assuming update by usb stick, as I have done on other cars. Just checked I see the SD card slot now.

there is a spot under the cd slot that says SD MAP on it, Flip it up, push the card in to eject it.
here is a picture.

Same here in the Chicago area. I've been at a couple of dealers where they didn't ask me for a copy of the DL or insurance card but most normally y do.
