If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'll start...I have an old set of Daiwa Irons, a Hiro Honma driver (pre Berez) , and a cleveland 58d wedge.

oh, and lots of used balls I found when scouring for my own lost balls. :)

Hey!!! Thanks for asking!

I was a Ping guy for the past 5 years and I have moved on to NIKE.

My thinking is that if the #1 player in the world uses Nike...why shouldnt I?

Now I reckon I need to change my USERNAME for this forum! HA!

So...here's whats in the bag:

Nike Dymo2 STR8 Fit or 09 Taylormade Burner Driver (it depends on how I look at the range:) )
Nike Victory Red Split-Cavity Irons 3-PW X100 Dynamic Gold Shafts
09 Taylormade Burner Rescue 3H
Nike Victory Red 52, 56, 60 Wedges X100's
Nike Unitized Tiempo Putter

I typically play USED Pro V's or HX Tours.

Tiger does NOT play with Nike clubs! That's what it says on the clubs!

He plays with Nike clubs, but they are custom-made (or prototype) version of the Nike Victory Red Forged TW Blade Iron. Many of the top pros play with customized versions of clubs.

But since Tiger plays with blade irons, and everyone on this forum (and even most pros) play a cavity back, does it really matter?

Tiger does play with a Scotty Cameron putter (owned by Acushnet, which is also comprised of the Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra golf brands) with a Ping grip. He occasionly plays with a few other non-Nike clubs, as his contract with Nike allows him to do.

Mark_888,

Please re-read my post!

Tiger "DOES NOT" play with Nike clubs! That's what it says on the clubs!

Tiger's been playing the same Irons since he's 14 years old (Nothing's changed)
The only thing that's changed is his Driver shaft. It has gone from 43.5" to 45" Graphite shaft.

Regards,

Regards,
I read your post, and I don't think that is correct. His clubs (at least most of them) are made by Nike. You may not be able to purchase the exact ones Nike made for him, but they are made by Nike employees (or Nike subcontractors). I saw a TV show on the Golf Channel where Tiger was working with the Nike club designer on his clubs.

Tiger does not use a Nike putter (as already stated), and he has the right to use other brands for any of clubs if he wants to (according to his contract with Nike). But the vast majority of his clubs are made by employees of Nike.

BTW, pros do not play irons for that long (since 14 years old would be about 17 years for Tiger). The club heads wear out (especially the grooves). I think I read somewhere that a pro changes club heads (irons) once every year or two on average just because they wear out (not including changing for other reasons).

If I am wrong, please provide some evidence.

Mark,

It is very hard to provide evidence as it will be as hard for you to provide otherwise.

I have a very good source! That's all I'll say.

I never said his club heads are the same as the ones he used when he was 14 years old. Of course he changes the heads yearly but the design is EXACTLY the same as when he was 14.

You are correct about...Nike makes Tiger's clubs to a certain degree.
They are designed by Nike Golf's design team including Tom Stites.

Where the confusion comes in is that Nike does not own manufacturing facilities for any of their products - they subcontract the work out.

It's Miura thats producing the forgings since they forged Tiger's clubs when he was sponsored by Titleist way back when.

The rough forgings are then delivered to Nike Golf's R&D facility in Forth Worth, Texas - a facility known as "The Oven." That's where the grinding, customizing and final assembly occurs. Mike Taylor is the one doing his custom grinds.

Regards,

PS. I love my car...;)

Unfortunately I have mouse droppings in my golf bag. Yup. It's been a while.

Looking beyond those lovely tidbits, I have Ping Eye irons in my bag. No woods. I hit a 1 iron off the tee.

The above information you posted about the Nike R&D facility in Forth Worth, Texas and Tom Stites is what was included in the Golf Channel show I watched. But your conclusions about who makes the clubs (just because the actual forgings are done by subcontractors) is really weak. Virtually 100% of all golf clubs form all manufacturers are forged or cast in Asia by subcontractors.

So you are saying that just because the clubs are rough forged to Nike specs at the same plant in Asia as another brand (before they are ground to specs by Nike) makes them the same clubs? That is a bit ridiculous IMO.

Regarding the "design" of the irons, Tiger plays blades and the design of blades hasn't changed in over 50 years. All brands are pretty much the same. But if Tiger designed the Nike blades to the same as he played before, isn't that the point of him endorsing them and why they are called Nike Tiger Woods Forged Limited Edition irons?

Nike subcontracts out the manufacture of their balls also. So what? Several other brands do the same.

BTW, the majority of the parts on the Genesis are made by subcontractors. Almost all computer parts are made in Asia by subcontractors, but designed by US companies to their specifications (including IBM).

WOW....this one took off like crazy!! HA!

With money not being an issue, I purchased the TW VR blades...exactly as Tiger had his set up...except mine were not upright. I had to find out the hard way that I am NOT Tiger. I could hit them fine, but I could not control my shots as well as desired. I sold them on ebay and bought the split-cavity irons with the same shafts, grip, etc...and they are perfect! I came to the realization that only Tiger and a hand full of others can play his blades...consistently.

I too, have seen the videos! Just like the Genesis, I researched everything on the WWW before I made my purchase. No tellin', where these things are made, but he plays them...and even has his name all over them. :o

To me...if I were Tiger, I would err on the side of technology. Not an old outdated mold of some irons made in a local golf store (for example only). I have been there too! Black Shark MX's to be exact.

Who knows, he could be fooling us all, but KJ Choi, Cink, Wie, and a handfull of others have the exact same looking club on TV.

Who? Your not his caddy...are you?? ;)

Well, I'll ask Stewart Cink next time I see him up here in Florence!:D

Not to fluff up my own cloud here...but I have seen Cink and he is an amazing man! You always tend to wonder what these famous folks act like off the course and Cink was just an average man...with morals. Grant it...I didnt speak to him because I respected his privacy, but I observed him at a local restaurant with his family. I thought it was funny that nobody acknowledged him...but I stared him down because I knew exactly who he was! I even got the wink! ;)

Anywho, what kind of clubs do you play?

HA!!! Those little "tidbits" show up everywhere!

Your PING EYE irons are worth some $$$ on ebay! You may try selling them if you dont use them...but then again, you may want to increase your collection of droppings! LOL!

I admire you! I have never been able to get a 1 iron more than 2 ft off the ground! Hence the term "worm-burner!":o

Lee Trevino said that when lightning starts striking the golf course, he pulls out a one-iron out of his bag and holds it up to the sky, becasue not even the Lord can hit a one-iron (I guess it didn't work that one time he got zapped).

When I start playing golf in my teens, the only irons made were blades, even the cheapest ones. Most of the balls I played with had big smiles (gashes) in them, because the only balls were balata, which had very soft covers. Things were tough back in those days.

Years ago I was playing basketball, went up for a rebound, and came down on another guy's foot. Rolled my ankle so hard it popped loud enough to stop play on the adjacent courts. Came down on my wrist as well.

The Docs initially thought I broke my ankle and sprained my wrist. Turned out it was a nasty sprain of the ankle and I broke my wrist, but they never caught the wrist until after it had partially healed. A couple of re-breaks and resets, and it's all screwed up.

Short story long, my right wrist is somewhat fused and has limited motion. I can't get enough to really swing a wood, so I've been hitting 1- and 2- irons off the tee for years. The 1- took some getting used to, but the Ping Eye, it's a nice set-up, when I'm in the groove it's an effortless swing. I can keep up and usually even out-drive my buddies with their collossal-head drivers.

I love the Ping Eyes. I need to get them re-gripped, though.

Sort of a funny "ping" story regarding my non golfing wife. Years ago when I was in the Air Force, I bought the Ping Eye clubs. But I was toting them around in a $5 bag stick bag that I'd had since I was 16 years old. She asked my fighter pilot buddies what "golf" gift she could get me for my birthday, they all despised my falling-apart golf bag, so they told her to get me a "ping bag." She thought they were joking, but they insisted, "no, he really needs a "ping bag."

She went to the pro shop and asked for a "pink bag". Of course, although she said "pink" the pro heard "ping", so the pro brought out a few "ping bags" in assorted colors. She picked out the most "pink" one, which turned out to be a nice crimson red bag.

End story? I LOVE the crimson red Ping bag, I've had it for 20+ years.

I need to go hit some balls. I'm long overdue.
