Good Bye Genesis Owners

After 30 months of owning a cpo 2012 genesis sedan 3.8 base, I have moved onto a new car. there are multiple reasons including a growing family, bumepr to bumper warranty running out, poor customer service and mechanical service from local dealer, some issues with the car service can't replicate, other issues that wouldn't be covered by warranty. the most annoying thing has been some clicks in the transmision at lower speeds, noisey ride---not sure if it's tires or rotors or something, and on top of that the braking has been horrible. so rather than spending time trying to get each of these addressed i have let it go.

what i can say is it's powerful and very smooth. and another plus is that in the 25k miles i owned it i haven't paid out of pocket for anything other than oil changes and tire rotations. i didn't have to get new tires or brakes.

will i get another hyundai again? i doubt it. i remember some 17 years ago arguing with my cousin that was visiting from korea for the first time about how hyundai is a horrible car and i vowed to him i would never buy one. but hey, i leased a sonata and after not the best experience with that, i decided to get the genesis next. this was in lieu of serving in the ROK military (haha, half joking).

The Hyundai 8-speed transmission was brand new for 2012, and Hyundai has had to replace a fair number of them that were built early in the 2012 model year. My guess is the noisy ride was a result of the OEM tires.

Where are you going next? Not willing to test wether Hyundai fixed the customer service issues with the Genesis brand?

Well, the problems started happening not all at once. With the stuff that would be covered under warranty I had difficulty demonstrating the problem to the technicians. Then there's stuff like rotors and brakes that's supposed to be wear and tear. A lifetime power train warranty would not be worth it if I'm having th deal with stuff like this.

The tires were not oem, we're brand new when I bought - yokohama.

The new car is the luxury line of a Japanese brand you as they say "can't go wrong with." Hoping for minimal time in the shop even if covered by warranty with loaner and all.

You bought a used car. A large percentage of the Base Trim Genesis models sold as used were former rentals, so there is no telling what condition they were in.

You can't judge a tire by its brand name. Every brand has a lot of different tire designs, with varying tread compounds. Also, energy saver tires typically are not very good at giving a quiet ride.

Good luck! I hate to see you go. Our community is small but growing at a steady pace. Just have to tame your GENNY beast to get her where you want her.
2 years and I have no regrets in my 2012. PERFECT for my 500 miles a week commute for work.
I have since bought tires and just for my sake upgraded the brakes and rotors with a high performance set. Again no issues. The cost of ownership has only been for gas, tires and oil changes. I cannot complain about that.

I would not mind dabbling in the Japanese luxury market but for me I feel I would not have an identity aka being sort of unique. I know my cost of ownership would be double of what I am experiencing now.

Niteflite, I totally understand your position. My 2010 Genesis is my 2nd Hyunda, first one being an Azera which was waaay better, and if I could afford to get rid of my Genesis I definitely would and not come back to Hyundai. Unfortunately, being on disability and a very very limited income, I'm stuck with this Genesis till the end of time.

Good luck with your new ride and I'm comfortable saying you'll have a much more pleasurable experience with your new brand.
