If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fellow Genesis Owners,

For two years I signed on to this forum on a daily basis. I learned about features on my Genesis that I was unaware of, read complaints and compliments regarding the Geneses. My 2012 model with premium and technology packages never lived up to my expectations of a comfortable ride.

In my opinion, my Genesis always provided a rough ride, harsh and not at all to my liking. I finally made a decision to cut my loses and sell the most beautifully
designed car I ever owned. Unfortunately, the suspension needs more work. The potholes and speed bumps in my home town jarred my teeth. So with great reluctance this is my last post. I am signing off and test driving cars that will save my teeth and sanity.

What cars are you considering next?

I am gun shy in selecting a new vehicle without an extensive test drive. I'm planning to do that starting this week. My wife has a 2012 Honda CRV and the ride is like a RR compared to the Genesis. If nothing else moves me, I'll just get basic transportation like the Honda CRV, not worry where I park and with all the parking dedicated to compacts, I might just get a compact so at least I'll fit into the parking space without getting my car dinged!

Did you ever change out the factory tires? That makes a big difference in the way it rides. The service department told me that the factory tires are made lightweight to help increase gas mileage. They aren't even available to the general public.

Hi Leon,

I am very new here and have only had my 2009 4.6 for 3 months and I feel your pain. I live in a small town south of Montreal and I have similar road conditions around town.

The genesis is rough in these conditions, but for me the drive on roads outside of town is worth the tradeoff, but I completely understand where you are coming from.

I changed my tires and while it is definitely better, it still rocks and rolls when the roads get nasty. It's the trade off for having an entry level sports-luxury sedan, and I am prepared to live with as the pros outweight the cons, for now at least.

Cheers and good luck.

Sorry to hear that. Your area of Los Angeles must really have rotten roads. My '12 rides like a dream over most surfaces and is heaven on the Interstates. There are the scattered problem area roads, of course. Rather than taking a bath on selling your new car, why not look into what some reputable local auto shops can do for your problem?

That is not true. The tires are the same as available to the general public. They are made by Michelin or Dunlop (Base Trim model only on newer Genesis MY's). The Dunlop tires chosen for the Genesis have received a lot of complaints, but not too many complaints on the Michelins. However, the Michelins on the Genesis are "energy saver" tires, so there are softer tires available, but the Michelin Energy Savers are pretty good.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I would recommend going to Discount Tire and buying another set of tires. There are great tires available at reasonable prices that are vastly more comfortable than the OEM tires you are suffering through now. Tell them what your problem is and see if they will let you drive with another set of tires under their 45 day return policy and NOT dispose of the tires on there now. I have seen D/T store managers go to extraordinary lengths to win and keep a customer for life. There is little risk in doing that, and a whole lot of $$ saved in lost depreciation.

This is what the service department explained to me. It made sense because of the fast wear on the factory Dunlops that came with my car.

When I bought my demo with only 5K miles, the dealership had to swap out two of the tires. I was riding on all slicks about 15K miles later.

I've bought cheap tires in my lifetime, but I've never had any to wear as fast as those factory Dunlops.

I ended up getting some Yoki's.

I understand that is what they told you, but they lied. Maybe you don't know this but car salesman do lie. Everyone who works in a dealership is a salesman, including the techs that inspect your car and tell you need things you don't really need.

Yes, we know the Dunlop's wear out very quickly, but if you went to TireRack and bought the same tire you would find that they wear equally quickly and are just as bad as the Dunlop's that come on the Genesis.

What is true is that auto manufacturers often choose tires that a good for a test drive or EPA mileage calculations, but beyond that are useless. But the tires are not different than the same model tire you can buy yourself.

From my understanding the Tires fitted by the car manufacturers are the same
Type/Rating but with various compositions regarding time of year etc,,
i.e... Todays MXR34 will very possibly have a different compound to the MXR34
fitted to vehicles in the winter months...
The retailed tires are a more general compound although the same Make/Type etc..

I'm sorry you're moving and I don't doubt your impressions, but I just don't understand these posts calling the Genesis's ride harsh. Especially surprising is hearing these complaints on the reworked 2012's suspension.

I think this car rides superbly in all conditions I've encountered. Never have I felt it "jar my teeth" over speed bumps, nor do I think it feels uncomposed encountering imperfections at high speeds.

I guess it's all about the driver's context - if you've been driving Dynaride Buicks all of your life then almost anything is going to feel less than plush.

Personally, coming from a sporty-ish hatch (Elantra Touring) and then before that a Sonata and Tiburon SE I have to say the comfort, composure, and quietness of this ride vastly surpasses anything I've driven up until this point (as would be expected).

Put me in the "Rides like a dream" camp. Mine is so smooth, without being a caddy. Couldn't be happier and we have crappy roads here in north Atlanta. All of our tax dollars go to repave the roads in south Atlanta, so down there I might even fall asleep at the wheel....

I am not knocking the 2012+ Genesis ride, but the entire Atlanta area has fairly smooth roads paved mostly with asphalt. For people who live where roads are concrete (which may be very noisy even when there no potholes) and have expansion joints every 25 feet, it may be a different story.

Mark, that is a very bold statement

Are you in the auto business? I am sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, but "if" they said that, then they did lie.

But I don't know for a fact that they did say that. They might have said (or meant) that OEM tires are usually not very good, and one can do much better than that when the time comes to replace them. But to say that the same OEM Dunlop or OEM Michelin is not available to the general public is much more bold that what I said. Maybe in some cases an OEM model is not available to the general public, but if it has the same brand/model/speed rating/size, it is probably the same tire that can be purchased at retail. I am pretty sure that both the Dunlop and Michelin models that are OEM on the Genesis are listed for sale on TireRack.com.

I don't hear anyone complaining about the OEM Michelin tires on the Genesis, and I don't see anyone buying the same replacement Dunlops under the assumption that the ones sold at a tire store a much better then the ones that are OEM on Genesis.

I guess it is all about what you are accustomed to. I don't find my R spec harsh as some reports say, but I came from a muscle car with a much firmer/harsher ride. I suppose if you are used to soft American luxury car rides then you would rate the Genesis as harsh. I've read the ride for 2012 was improved over previous models. US NEWS Best Cars dropped the Genesis ranking to 7 for the 2013 model. Reliability got 3 out of 5 which is somewhat concerning. There are lots of good choices out there and I am confident you'll find the right one. Good luck. Remember, never pay retail!
