Goodbye G70

It was not an easy decision but it is time to move on from the G70. I decided a crossover would work for my life better than a sedan. Driving on new worksites without completed roads was testing the ground clearance and I was tired of crawling around in areas I likely shouldn't be. Luckily I did no damage but it was just a matter of time. I decided on a Mazda CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus, a really good vehicle but nowhere near the fun for my right foot. Hopefully the nights of crying myself asleep go away soon. All the best!

Man, I hate to hear that, but I understand. My wife has a CX5, and while it's no G70, it's still a very nice vehicle. The 2.5 turbo is very smooth and torquey, and almost diesel-like in it's power delivery. I obviously prefer my G70, but don't complain when we have to take the Mazda places.

I haven't been inside a CX50 yet, but I'd expect the same level of refinement.

We considered Mazda when shopping for both the SF and G70, and they just didn't cut it for us. Being FWD-based (and with a HUGE overhang), they just don't compare with a RWD Genesis. The infotainment alone was a deal-breaker for us (tiny screen, dated/convoluted interface, and no touch-screen), plus the SF Calligraphy is way nicer inside and out, and much better equipped, for about the same money (just a little more), so it easily won. The 6-sp tranny was a letdown too. But they do have a very loyal following, so there must be something nice about them. Hope all goes well with yours over the long run. Good luck.

Yes there is. Primarily it's because of the way they drive and handle, which is why the CX-5 is a repeat winner in Car & Driver's annual 10 Best.
My wife has one (a 2019 Turbo) and as @Ace Deprave said, I don't choose it over my G70, but I still enjoy driving it. The utility, comfort and reliability, along with our lifetime average of 26mpg (better than my G70), are also factors in it's favor.

Good to hear; thanks. I like having iDrive, since HATE having the screen all messed up with finger prints. But in addition to touch-screen, like when you just can't find something with iDrive. Or need a quick input. Since we already bought the SF, the model we'd buy instead of the G70 2.0T would be the CX-30, which is the newest version of the CX-3, but don't believe it comes with ventilated seats, which is a deal-breaker feature. And also doesn't come with the new touch-screen you mentioned. If the G70 2.0 test-drive goes sour, then we'd probably take a look at it again. We don't have any other options right now, and don't want another EV yet, so hope it goes well.
Another option would be to buy a 2021 2.0T elite/prestige, that actually has everything (napa, HUD, 360 camera, suede headliner, etc), and it's selling for $42,700, which is 3 grand less than the 2023 we're waiting for, without the 'prestige' items of the 3.3T. It also lists MPG as 22/30, vs 21/31 for the new one, which is the same darn thing, so why more hwy??? At any rate, will call right now to see what they're doing with that car.

Really? And that's the new platform. I don't really like Mazdas anyway, so they were scrapped. I bought the 2023 G70 2.0T Sport Prestige since then, and I'm hoping for the best. There isn't anything else that we want, neither on the SF side, nor the G70 side, so hope they for once, turn reliable. The weak link on the SF will be the DCT-8 tranny (and possibly the new engine), so we'll see about that one. The G70 should be reliable, since it has the old platform, infotainment, engine, and tranny, but you never know. Everything turned to crap after COVID, so I'm taking that into account. The G70 has awful paint defects and panel fit I'd have balked at any other time, but let them go now. As long as both vehicles turn mechanically reliable, I'd be really happy. Ha ha. We'll see.

Hi COToad - maybe you'll check back for old time's sake and see my question. During your time of Genesis ownership, did you find a dealership in the Denver area that you were satisfied with re: routine maintenance, etc? I live in your area and am still wandering the wilderness in search of the Genesis Experience for my 2020 G70.

I think the CX-50 is a handsome looking vehicle. I went in to look at them locally when they had a couple in the building. Cool vehicle that I could see myself driving at some point but not anytime soon. $3000 market adjustment and that's after the $1800 in lojack and wheel locks etc.

CX-50 is a really good choice. I only had Mazdas before coming to Genesis and was always happy with their quality and minimal interior design. Too bad you could wait a little longer for the launch of CX-70 to have another Mazda option! that one is going to be even nicer than CX-50 for someone who does not care about the outdoorsy vibe.
