  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well it was bound to happen. Had the car for a year now.

As I was backing out of a parking space at work, I sudnely hear a ding ding and then smack. Not much warning at all. I looked around and couldn't see anything. AS I was getting out of the car, I thought I had hit one of the yellow poles that suround the fire hydrant in the middle of the parking lot. Nope. I hit a car that was parked in front of the poles.

Now there are no marked lines in the parking lot and most people park in a some what orginaised fashion. But this guy was more out in the midile rather than in line with the other cars. My right rear corner hit his right front corner. He was backe din while I had pulled in forward. Also it was wet out and I didn't have a really clear view out my back window. But I couldn't see him in my mirrors or back up camera.

Damage to the Genney is minor. I broke teh chrome accent peiec but was able to push it back in place. Some minor scuff marks that will easly buff out. If you look really close, you can see the upper pannel is out a little more than the lower one. But I don't think anyone will notice it unless I point it out. I'm going to see what a new chrome strip will cost and how easy it will be to replace.

At least that was all of the damage. Still kind of sad though that it happened.

Bummer dude. I got my first dent within the first week on my R-Spec. I'm planning on getting it repaired after the Holidays, but I definitely know how you feel.

Shortly after I got my 3.8 I was backing out of a space in a parking lot. I looked both ways behind me, and an old pickup truck was approaching from my right. I waited until it passed behind me and then started to back out - crunch! The pickup driver had stopped past me and then reversed after I had started backing out. $1200 dollars worth of rear quarter panel body work and paint. I was not pleased.

So far so go with our Genesis. I hope its the last for you. However our previous car, a 2004 Acura, was in the shop for front bumper, lights and hood several times from Feb. 2004 to Sept. 2010.
1. Ran into a ditch in rain = new front bumper and fog lights
2. Hit rear of a car on an exit ramp = new front bumper and headlights
3. Hit Deer on way home from work = new front bumper, headlights, and hood
4. On I285 in Atlanta an Igloo cooler fell off a truck and hit the front of Acura= new front bumper and one headlight
5. Valet parking guy at a Country club in Atlanta hit front of car with an SUV= new front bumper and headlights.
6. Parking lot damage on side of front bumper at a pay valet parking lot downtown Atlanta = new front bumper and one headlight.

each time the plastic front grille was also replaced.

Our body shop just kept a pint of paint ready for the Acura. LOL
and I should have purchased stock in the company that makes Acura bumpers.

Wow, 6 front bumpers? That's gotta be some kind of record!

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Does the other car owner know about the damage to his car? I saw no mention of it. He probably parked the way he did to avoid such incidents.

I think I would have considered the addition of a bull bar for the front of that car!

I know the first dent will happen to me too someday, but here's hoping the event is at least several years away.

BRO....i got worse news :( it happened 2 days ago....someone ran over my car so the back seat of the passenger side is all....EFFED UP :( i'm taking it to the bodyshop tomorrow :(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Crusty: Sorry about your mishap. When I read your post, I thought how lucky I am not to have any dents, but then I remembered that's not true. I actually did have some damage early on (see this thread), but had it repaired.

Marty: What do you mean by running over your car?

Where do you live, Israel? Did a tank run it over!??!

LOL, just joshing.

CRUSTY, I FEEL YOUR PAIN. When I got my first deep gash on the front bumper, an angel lost his wings.

lmao...no some idiot with a pick up truck at the parking lot backed up and his rear just hit the right side of my genny....it wasn't a big strong hit but it left a huge dent and scratched the fender and the door :(

btw bodyshop is charging me $800 so it's away from me until Wednesday

Seems like a bargain, actually. I thought ANYTHING done to cars these days cost in the thousands. Good for you though! Good luck.

Yeah the strangest thing happened when i took my genny to the bodyshop.....i was signing papers to leave her when he said it would be $750 and he was doing it cheaper since someone in the shop referred me to....but the funny thing is i don't know anyone there...i think they confused me with another asian...lmao

Thanks everyone. Dent is not that bad after all. I cleaned it and used some scratch remover and it dosen't look too bad. Had to superglue the chrome trim back together until I can replace it. I've got one small scratch in the paint that shows the black plastic underneath.

I talked to the guy I hit. His car looks better than mine. He's not worried about it as he said his car needs painting anyways. Said he was thankful that I was so honest.

I told him to let me know when he wante dto paint his car and I'd hook him up with my body and paint guy.

It's just the first dent seems to be the hardest to take. Wife just looked at me and shook her head. Said she was disapointed in me. But it didn't stop her from driving the car. ;)

That first dent definitely detaches you from your car... it's like a piece of your heart gets dinged too.

:'(

I only had my car a few hours, 70 miles on the odometer. Parked on a main downtown street. According to a bunch of witnesses a guy in a red corvette parked next to me did a hit and run. Of course no one got the plate. $1200 to replace my rear bumper and trim. I have to pay the deductable.

You just got your car and just got your rear bumper hit?????????????????? are you bloody serious?????

Yup 70 miles. Had it less than 5 hours. At least it was only plastic. Bumper is torn and trim cracked. No steel metal.

Many years ago my wife (then fiance) bought a new Chevy. She parked it in her parents' driveway and her dad came out with a hammer and gave it a tiny ding in the rear bumper. He told her it would toughen her up so her first real scrape would not be so painful.
