  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got rear ended yesterday. Is there anyway to tell if the internals have been damaged without removing the bumper.

Okay. Also, should I try to take it to a Hyundai Certified Collision Center? Would I get a better repair that way than taking it somewhere that's not? Or can I just take it anywhere and ask that they use genuine oem parts?
Should be good either way. Genesis is a low volume car so you won't easily find cheap made parts as there is not enough volume to tool for it.

If you had a lot of electronic issues you may do better with a dealer shop since they are better trained and have any special equipment needed. Bumpers are relatively easy for any body shop.

Okay. So you mean that because I have all the sensors, it might be better I do it with a dealer? The guy at the shop I went to said that all the sensors would need to be reset after being disconnected and reconnected. He said for that shop they contract out to a company who specializes in that.

Many cars have them so I'm sure a good shop can handle it.

Your agent can answer that.

When I got hit I was not moving, thus not my fault. My insurance got my car fixed in a timely manner and I paid the $500 deductible. They later collected from the other insurance and refunded my $500. Rate not affected.
That is my experience but yours may differ.
Just called my insurance. They just said that they logged it and to let them know if we have any issues with the other peoples insurance.

Thanks for the reply. How can I tell if the active head restraint activated (I don't think it did, but just to be sure)? Also, interestingly, it seems that all the sensors still seem to work as of now.
You can't. It works automatically and shouldn't show any damage unless you were in a MASSIVE car accident. I mean something over 50mph. Good friend of mine and his wife were in a high speed rear ending (BMW X3) over 60mph and only showed minor deformity. Thankfully, they hit nobody else and the guy whom hit them walked away with no injury.

Okay, thanks for the reply! Is this going to make my premium go up even though it technically wasn't my fault?
If they determine that the other party caused the accident, the no you shouldn't get a increase.

Feel free to take your car WHERE YOU WANT TO. That is your choice and the insurance can't contradict that. Not sure what state you are in, but in Texas you can demand OE parts during the first five years of age. After that, you may be forced to accept used, manufactured or third party parts. Check with your insurance on that.
As a side note, if the accident wasn't your fault tell the insurance that you want "diminished value". This is the difference between an undamaged car and one that has been repaired. This makes you "whole" if you decide to trade this car in after the repairs are made.

Any work being "farmed out" is most likely headed to the dealer. How many estimates have you gotten? While in the shop, you should be provided a loaner. As EdP stated, parts for these cars can be limited...which may force them to use on OE.

Okay. So do I ask my insurance for "diminished value" or do I ask the other persons insurance for that?

Yeah, so basically you can't find a cheap china frame for the rear for this car? How come you can find say cheap ac compressors for this car then? I really do want OEM because this is a structural part of the car!

So I couldn't tell if it activated? Like I know in the BH sedans it was blatantly obvious if it activated as it would be noticeably popped out from the holder for the head rest? Do these newer DH sedans work the same way?

Many parts are interchangeable. The AC components may be used in a dozen or more models and even across makes. Remember the thread about parking sensors? They are all made by the same supplier. But a Genesis bumper is only used by Genesis.

Once fault has been determined, then tell the insurance companies.

No, you can't tell except from extreme damage. SAAB was the first to deploy this technology (SAHR) in the early 90's. Volvo quickly picked up the technology (WHIPS) and not only deployed it in all cars, but also spread it to Ford. By the mid 2000's, pretty much every car manufacturer had it equipped. You don't hear much about ABS, Stability Control, Active Head Restraints. These are all standard items. Still remember GM b!itch!ng about equipping cars with ABS and Driver Airbags in 1992 MY.

Should make it easier to repair. I keep saying it, but I'd take a Genesis any day over a Mercedes Benz or a BMW.
