  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Genesis Family

I come to you all in sadness. My 2021 GV80 has sustained damage to the rear passengers door, front passengers door handle as well as the front passenger side mirror in a botched attempt while turning into a garage.

I am planning on getting this fixed; my main question is whether this level of damage warrants taking it to the dealership vs. taking it to a presumably cheaper independent body shop. My Genesis dealer is quite highly rated and one of the top in the country. I have been very happy with their service. I am not sure if the damage to the door handle involves anything specialized sensors or would involve just replacing the plastic cover. I do see some wires underneath where the plastic handle cover was ripped off but unclear if any of these were damaged/ripped off.

I appreciate everyones help

Does the dealer have a body shop? If not, they will farm it out to a local shop they work with.
The quality of the finished products is not the sign on the door, it is the guy with the paint sprayer.

Thanks for your response. It’s Genesis of Cherry Hill in NJ. Not sure if they have one but from looking online it does not look like they have one. It is part of the Burns Hyundai Group and seems like, according to what I can find online, there is a Burns Body shop so maybe that’s where body work goes…

Like Ed P said. Most dealers do not do their own body work. So check that out first.
If your paying for it, I would go with the better price. If your insurance is paying for it, I would look towards the dealer.
