If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So just my review and my opinion of the Magnaflows (just used the stock exhaust pipe and had the stock mufflers cut out and Magnaflows installed.) I had them installed and after they started it up you could barely hear the exhaust outside of the car. I almost had them take off the stock resonator and very glad I didn't. The drone inside the car is fairly loud around 1600rpm to 2300rpm under light throttle (mainly where the rpms always are for around town driving.) I have had a ton of different mufflers installed and a lot of different vehicles so I have more than my fair share of experience here. The drone is gone on the freeway completely. When your in the the throttle you get a nice sound. I personally will keep them for now but if I had it all to do over again I would choose something else. Just my opinion the amount of sound outside of the car isn't worth the sound inside the car. Maybe the mufflers being right under the trunk make it an echo chamber. Also with an 8 speed these cars seem to operate a little lower in the RPMS making the drone more pronounced. A couple of friends listened to the car and mentioned that you can barely tell that it has aftermarket mufflers. Over all it does sound nice its just a little loud inside at certain RPMS.. I also had the windows tinted. The car just turned 700 miles!!

Post a video or sound clip too if you can. I'm running the full Magnaflow cat back on my '12 4.6. I'm interested in hearing other '12-14 V8s with exhaust mods as there aren't many videos out there.

I'm surprised you find the Magnaflows so quiet as they are often used in setups with a good amount of volume. What you're describing reminds me of the mufflers (forgot which brand) I installed years ago on my 1995 Nissan 300ZX to replace the loud HKS HiPower exhaust setup when I was preparing to sell the car. That setup resulted in a ton of drone and interior noise but negligible exterior exhaust note volume and I couldn't wait to get rid of the car. I understand dealing with interior noise when you have an aftermarket setup that produces the right volume outside the car but having all that interior noise without exterior benefit would drive me nuts. It might as well be quiet all around at that point.

Here are my Dynomax VT vids if anyone is curious:

Well if you are interested I have two barely used DynoMax VT mufflers that I am swapping out next week. They have literally been on my car for a week now. I am swapping them out for the exact same mufflers but, I had a new pair powder coated black (personal preference).

I really like the sound quality of these mufflers. The valve technology really minimizes the drone. Either way let me know otherwise I will list them next week when they get swapped.

Here is mine:

- Test pipes
- MSA X-pipe
- Vibrant 12" bottle resonators
- Magnaflow mufflers
- Flowmaster 4" tips

No drone, sounds much better under load (Rather than revving in the driveway):

Any videos under load? I hate watching stationary vids as the exhaust note changes drastically under load.

I will try to get some tomorrow.

I did a similar setup only I used 12" Dynomax resonators, Dynomax VT 17156, no tips, and I did the MSA secondary cat deletes. Sounds great. In low RPMs i hear the intake over the exhaust.

Which MagnaFlows did you install? There is a wide range of sizing for MF and the larger the mufflers the quieter they will be. Maybe post a part number.

I didn't get the part number but there small mufflers. Offset in center out. I had a big magnaflow on a Chevy truck and took it right back off because it sounded just like stock.

Jus purchased Borla pro xs mufflers. Cant wait to install them. I'll post vids once installed. I heard theres less drone with Borla turbo mufflers vs chamber mufflers. We'll see if thats the case..

I don't think that the stock resonator is designed for aftermarket mufflers. And, that stock resonator is obnoxiously heavy.

I do notice a louder exhaust note in the cabin during "lugging" (too high a gear for the throttle input and speed combination) with my setup. But, drone is not a problem at all with the aftermarket Magnaflow mufflers with the resonators. There isn't a loud reverberation when this occurs. I can still hear my stereo at a normal volume. Under steady throttle, there are no loud sounds in the cabin at that RPM range.

Overall, unless you go with a Dynomax VTs which are designed to be quiet unless you give it more throttle, you are going to have interior exhaust sounds in the car under those conditions.

I think the real question is how loud is the note? Can you hear your turn signal indicators? Can you hear your stereo? Is there a reverberation to the sound?

Flynblind what is your exact exhaust set up?
Drone may not be a problem with your set up but it sure is with mine. Hearing a blinker has nothing to do with it. I am not really following your logic! When the exhaust is vibrating the seats and the exhaust is not very loud outside the car that wasn't what I was looking for.
So are you suggesting that the stock resonator doesn't play well with aftermarket mufflers? I was expecting a little more exhaust note outside the vehicle and less inside. Again I have had a ton of exhaust set ups and I totally understand that the exhaust will be heard inside the vehicle.. I get that but I did not expect it to be so quite outside vs the interior noise and vibrations. The muffler case measure 14x8x4 so they are the smaller magnaflows. I can live with the exhaust but if there is something I can do to get the outside a little louder and keep the inside noise the same I am game. Or even make it a little less noticeable inside I am game. My fear is I put on a different resonator and make things worse

Where is the resonator located on these cars? Is is located in the H pipe or elsewhere?

The H pipe I believe

Interesting, that means the MSA X pipe removes the resonator altogether if I recall correctly.

Correct, the stock resonator is kind of an h-pipe in that both exhaust streams intersect at that location. The x-pipe on my Magnaflow CBE replaces that section of the exhaust. I'd assume it would be the case with the MSA version.
