  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This past weekend I was headed out to eat. The speed limit out here is 75 mph and the Holiday traffic was thick but still moving 75 - 80 mph. I was about four - five car lengths behind a big 4x4 SUV in the slow lane and had a line of cars behind me and a few coming up on my left to pass.

We were rounding a long, sweeping left hand turn and I could see some shredded semi tire in the road but it looked like it was on the shoulder. As we get closer I can tell it's in the road but almost on the solid yellow line to the right and would be easily avoidable. And then with awe I watch the 4x4 swerve and intentionally hit the freaking tire! It wasn't a whole tire but a big piece nonetheless and would definitely have caused major damage. And still way to big to let it go under the car.

In slow motion I see this slab of shredded tire fling up out the back of the SUV and head straight for the front of my car. I couldn't jam on the brakes or swerve to the left because of the cars so I had to go right and onto the shoulder. I just kind of flicked the wheel hard right and then hard left and that was it. At 75 mph it was just kind of uneventful. I felt the rear tires slide just a hair but nothing scary or like it was going to step out and get unruly. The car really didn't even lean that much. I'd have to say that it felt "composed".

After it was over I was way more impressed with this cars abilities. If I had been driving my truck or my wife's car I'm sure it would have been a lot more "fun".

Giving the GC's two big thumbs up for superb emergency maneuver abilities.

What happened to the guy behind you??:)

HA! I didn't even think to look back. Wow, I have no clue. I hope they were able to go around it. I'm sure everyone was wondering what the heck I was doing.
