Halogen to HID projectors?

Hi there! This is my first post and am new to the Genesis, so bear with me. I just picked up a 2012 4.6 sedan off auction the other day. One of the pieces I need to replace is the right headlight. I found a halogen headlight on ebay and was wondering if I can (or even have to) swap the halogen projector out and put in the good HID projector from the wrecked light? Thanks for your input!

If you have a 4.6 there are some things that need to be answered first. Is it a base 4.6? Does it have adaptive front lights? Does it have navigation with the DIS knob?

If the answer to the last two questions are "yes" then you will need the HID light assembly. Especially if it has the AFLS system which moves the light up to 15* to improve cornering light.

Yes it does have the Nav with DIS knob. I believe it does have the adaptive lights, but again, I'm new to this car. Is there a way to fit the working internals of the HID/adaptive headlight to the halogen healight I found online?

Probably, but it won't be worth the effort. Gutting, modding, and subsequently resealing isn't a swap/go affair.

Yea it wouldn't be easy at all. I have actually done that and it took about 3 months and $1,000 in parts. Not worth it unless you are using custom projectors....

^^That. A TRS retrofit (dual projectors and other fun gizmos) would be far easier.

I have to disagree about the need to swap out the projectors. Hyundai has a nice habit of sharing actual projector, lens, reflector and shield components and complete assemblies across both HID and halogen lines.

On my 2011 Azera LTD they put factory halogens in it - which looked absolutely retarded considering it also came with LED halos and light pipes from the factory. I decided to HID it and got awesome results with a bulb swap & ballasts from TRS.

I have done numerous full HID retros including a 4-projector setup in my Honda Goldwing (extremely tight space to work with for 4 projectors, wiring, ballasts and relays - in a motorcycle!) and the Azera mod was the easiest one to date. Took me a couple-3 hours and looks & works fantastic today. Nice sharp cutoff, a little bit of blue flash and I can see fantastic.

I used the Morimoto XB 35's from TRS - had to swap to the XB's because the standard had the return wire inside the bulb on the wrong side and cast a strange shadow on the ground in front of the car. You can see the shadow in the wall pix below - but once I changed them it went away and has been great. The cutoff landed almost exactly where the stocks were - and there was NO vertical light scatter at all.

But there are no steps in the shield and I am willing to bet you got some laser lines from it?

Either way, the OP has AFLS and therefore will set off a whole bunch of warning lights on the dash if he does not do the stock HID with motor
