  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am ready to buy a White 3.8 Genesis with Premium pkg - no Tech Pkg, and am trying to beat the Jan 3 deadline in order to claim both the $1500 dealer incentive + the longer standing $1500 competitive owner rebate.

Finding this car has been an up hill battle. Why is this so hard to find? I guess Hyundai makes very few of them?

I am in the metro-Washington DC area fwiw.

I don't know how the distribution of models and packages works. When I bought my 2010 3.8 Premium/Nav (no Tech) from Ourisman in Laurel last year there were at least 8 available in the DC/Balto area in my chosen color (black). I don't know about other colors, but there was no shortage of black 3.8 premiums without tech at that time.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I checked Fitzmall -- they were about $800 higher in price that the overstock.com pricing service, so no help there.

Good news is that I solved my problem -- I added the Tech Pkg. I justified the extra cost by considering the benefit of certain features that I wanted -- the adaptive cruise control, xenon lights, and lane departure warning -- hopefully it will notify me when I nod off and start to veer off the road.

Going to pick it up from Pohanka Hyundai in Marlow Heights, MD on Thursday for $37,929 + $200 dlr fee + tax, tag etc. This price includes the $1500 competitive incentive and the manufacturer-to-dealer incentive.

Congratulations. You're going to love it ;)

Was Pohanka cheaper than Fitzmall? That surprises me. I bought my 2010 with Tech 4.6 and Fitzmall was the cheapest.

Yes, I also am surprised. I have purchased 2 cars from Fitzmall in the past and I expected them to be the lowest priced as well.

It looks like the 4.6 is only about $1200 more than the loaded 3.8, so I changed my mind and should be picking up my white 4.6 tomorrow. I think the differences (aside from HP, torque, weight and mileage) are the wood on the steering wheel, different steering system, and LED scuff plates.

Dealer is annoyed since they had to locate and swap for both the 3.8 and the 4.6, but they seem to be okay now.

I hope the 4.6 is reliable -- I saw some threads on this site about cold start problems with this engine; hopefully it is an isolated issue ?

The 4.6 also has an LSD rear differential, and the V6 does not....at least for 2009 model.

I picked up the 2012 4.6L Genesis this afternoon. Heck of a car for a heck of a price.

There is so much stuff that you simply can't know before you buy the car. For me, I had not sat in the car at night so I was impressed with how the controls are lit. My wife followed me home and couldn't believe how intense the brake light LEDs were.

I was also impressed with the LED-lit "Genesis" lettering on the scuffplates. I was blown away when I walked up to the car in the dark this evening with the key fob in my pocket and the lights under the mirrors came on automatically.

I wonder what I wil discover tomorrow.

I appreciate the Genesis "crash course" that this forum has offered me over the past few days. Thanks to all who have contributed.

2 pieces of advice:
Read the owners manual.
Check the tire pressure.

One more:
Have fun!
:welcome:

Does not appear to be an isolated issue, although it may not occur every time. Do not shut off your engine if you just recently started it and engine is not warmed up yet, and you can avoid the problem. Using synthetic oil may help to prevent the problem, although that is not proven.

Mark-888 -- how long do you need to warm up the 4.6 engine before you can safely shut it down? I checked this site and saw mention of 20 seconds, but not sure if there is an absolutely definitive answer to this question.

Yes, very hard to find a 3.8/Premium pkg without the Tech package. I had to go 200 miles south to North Carolina to get my price and my color.

If the outside temperature is cold, I don't think 20 seconds is enough, but not sure. I would check the temperature gauge on the dash and use that as a guide.

Pohanka? Take extra care! Salisbury, MD Pohanka tries to sell damaged goods as new. Ali Baba lives there.

They got my car via dealer swap, but it didn't have anywhere near the miles that it would have taken to get the car from Sailsury, MD.

My only issue is that the heated drivers seat doesn't seem to work -- the back of the seat heats up, but not the cushion. I will take it in one day but not for awhile. The car is too new, and past history tells me that I will likely end up with some other surprise if I take the car in -- like a scratch or a ding.

They usually truck the cars both ways on a a dealer swap, because the other dealer doesn't want to get a car with a lot of miles on it. When I buy a car that involves a unit not in stock (because of dealer swap, or not yet available from distributor), I always modify the sales contract to specify that the car cannot have more than 20 miles on it (unless I know that the swapped car has already been driven more than that and I agree to the mileage on the car). I just write the additional terms in the margins of the contract and initial the change, and have sales manager initial it (I also specify that car cannot have any dealer badging/logos on it).
