  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone else notice that when you lock onto the HD signal the volume goes down considerbly? I noticed today that before the HD sgnal kicked in the volume was much higher. When the HD locked on..volume down. Anyone else notice this? Is this normal?

The HD radio reception is very bad where I live but I haven't had any problems with the volume dropping. HD radio breaks down the music more and if you have the fader/balance set a certain way, it may make a noticable difference. Same type of thing when you listen to surround sound, different speakers get different amounts of sound. Let us know what you find out...

This is the same I get when watching TV from regular cable channel compared to a HD channel.

Weird:confused:

HD Radio uses a technology known as multicasting. The HD signal piggy-backs on the standard analog signal. It is quite possible that the digital signal is not boosted as strongly as the standard carrier signal. This would account for the volume drop off. I have only noticed this on one station locally where the digital signal volume is lower than the standard analog volume. In my area most are very similar in volume. Also, keep in mind, the HD signal has a much broader dynamic range than the standard signal. The standard analog signal is pretty compressed, which tends to be perceived as "louder."

I haven't had this problem in awhile, but just shut the car off and let the system reset itself. Should be fine.
