  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Newer GV70 owner, My wife and I just returned from a bit of a road trip and I asked what is the difference when one has HDA status lit or not. I know it's only on on certain roads. But, I'm not sensing much, if any, of a difference when driving. Does anyone know what really is the difference? The GV seems to center (LKA) and react to cars in front (adaptive cruise) with no differences.
TIA

I have a 2023 GV70EV and with HDA active, I see two things different:

1. When I put the turn signal on to change lanes, I give a little nudge on the steering wheel and the car then changes lanes on its own.....I really don't like it...seems to change lanes too aggressive for me.
2. In the heads up display and in the dash display, a little white box appears and it matches a car passing me. The white box moves as the car passes me. If I turn HDA off...I don't see the little white box anymore.

Don't you need HDA2 for the lane change?

HDA took me a few miles to get used to but now that I use it, on long trips it is very nice. You have to keep your had at least lightly on the wheel, but it will keep you centered and follow the curves. First day on a long trip I did over 900 miles easily.

What I did find, many drivers don't drive dead center. I had a bias to the left so I was trying to correct instead of letting do what is does very well.

I'm thinking the HDA is illuminated only when driving on a digitized highway. The HDA will automatically set the vehicle speed on the digitized highway whenever the speed limit changes. It won't automatically change the vehicle speed when on a non-digitized highway. Does that sound right?

I agree that one has to be on a limited access highway. That point is mentioned in the manual. You may be right about speed, but I don't use that function.

The manual kind of implies that the lane assist is more "active" in HDA mode. I didn't notice, but next trip I'll try again. I don't have HUD nor the EV version. I had expected an active lane changing function, but I think that's part of HDA II... which I don't have. There is a function that strongly keeps one from changing lanes if there is a vehicle in that next lane, but I haven't figured out how to test it without getting in an accident. I wonder if that's only active with HDA.

Yes, I only have one highway in my area that enables HDA. From what I can tell, all it does is automatically change your speed. On all other roads, turning on cruise and the lane keep assist option is the same except for automatic speed changes.

As of now, that has been my experience. Still I wonder about hindering a lane change if a vehicle is in the blindspot. I'm talking about more than than just tones and steering wheel vibrations.

Yes...I might be talking about HDA2.

The biggest difference that I notice is when driving in stop and go traffic.
With HDA, the car will come to a complete stop (when the car in front stops) and then when the car in front advances, the GV70 will begin to move with no driver input
When not on HDA, the car will stop and if stopped for more than a few seconds, the car will require the driver to tap the gas to start moving again.

It is a nice feature that takes some of the frustration out of being stopped on the highway

If a vehicle is in your blindspot then I believe you get a message the "conditions are not met" and you will just sit there in the lane with your indicators on as it will not change.
