  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone gotten to the root of the boot loop issue on the radio head unit? I have an 15 Ultimate. I took out the head unit to send off to repair and I took the top cover off to have a peek. It appears to have a pretty generic 64gb SSD right under the CD drive that is easily replaceable. Anyone had any luck popping in a new drive and trying to load firmware? I know SSD’s don’t last forever and if it went belly up I could replace that in about 10 minutes.

Was this after you tried the recent MapNSoft update? - there's a few threads about it on here.

I did try the update. It bricked on me a few years back and was able to get it working again with that method. However this time around I would only get the Genesis logo for a minute or so then it would go blank before displaying the logo again.

Yes, I was successful. I just bought a 2015 5.0L ultimate at an repo auction and the head unit would take forever to register inputs. Appears to be a pretty common issue for this year. I took the head unit out of the car, took the 64gb SSD out, replaced with a 500gb Samsung SSD flashed with the 2015 image file, put everything back together and it booted up immediately. Hope this helps

Where would I locate the actual image file? Is this the same thing that is downloaded with the map update?

No, it’s not the same as the map update file. Follow this link and within it there’s a link to the 2015 image file download:
Once you have the new SSD and the image file downloaded, use a SSD flash software (I used Etcher) to write the image file to the new SSD. From that point it’s plug and play to the head unit.

You’ll also need one of these to connect the external SSD to your computer, if you don’t have one already.

ORICO 2.5 inch External Hard... Amazon.com

I do have one of those already. Hopefully this works and saves me $750.
I hope so too, and that this thread helps others experiencing this issue with their head units. Please keep me posted on your results

Does the SSD have the 4 screws holding it down from the bottom like in a PC or is there some sort of adhesive under it? I got it open, but that thing is in there good. The CD drive has a little ribbon cable that I’d have to unplug to go further into it….i just hate messing with those as it’s so easy to damage them when plugging them back in.

Yes, the SSD has 3 screws holding it in from underneath. IIRC you have to unscrew the board to get underneath it.

Worked like a charm! As long as you can take something apart and put it back together this can be done with a screwdriver.
Glad to hear! Nice work

This worked pretty good for me but for some reason now most of the settings menu options are not working. When I try to pull up system info, general or display settings it just times out and never opens any screens. Everything seems to work otherwise but I can not adjust eq or other sound settings or go to system update. Anyone have any thoughts?

I no longer have my Genesis, but I do remember there being slight version differences between the iso I downloaded and what was supposed to be on the drive. I got errors when I tried to do a map update that bricked it and I had to take the drive out, format it, and load the iso again. So I just left it alone. The menus and functionality was normal though.

What year and model? The 2015 image only works for 15/16 9.2 inch with jog dials. If you don't have the jog dial a bunch of things won't work right, since it's technically a different head unit.

I finally got it to work. It was the 2015 9.2in with jog dial. Once I downloaded the update from Genesis and ran that everything started working perfectly. Not sure what went wrong with the image other than maybe the firmware didn't match the software on the image? Pretty sure the unit had never updated at all prior.

That would have done it. The system image would have expected the firmware payload to be current as of 2018. But doing an update also replaces most of the disk image in the process.
