  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Had a head unit problem crop up three times in the last week on 2015 Ultimate. Symptom is a loss in input controls, for example I spin the volume knob while listening to music and the Guidance volume appears but has no effect on the music volume.

Most buttons will not work, pop in a CD and still the XM keeps playing, even though the CD screen pops up. Cannot turn sound off either.

Most buttons and functions fail to work until powering down the car and restarting.

The trigger for the failure is when a txt message alert comes up with the options to read etc. , reading now seems to mess up the software.

So far leaving the (android) phone disconnected has solved the issues.

Seems like your version of Android doesn't want to play nice with the H/U's version of software. Has the head unit been upgraded lately?

Hopefully that's the case. I last upgraded the headunit about a year ago.

What software version do you have? I have a 2015 Ultimate and updated the firmware and maps once to version 12.5 in May 2019 and so far no problems, and I have received text messages from a Samsung android phone. At least 2 software versions have been released since then, and There is a new software version 15.5 coming in November.

I'll have to check, no idea but its from 2020. It had been working fine since I got the phone a year ago, just started happening very recently without any changes. I am also going to reset the connection to see if it fixes the issue, for now I just turned off bluetooth on the phone. meanwhile iPhone is still working fine via Bluetooth.

Also thanks for the tip, might as well update the maps again.

Yeah... they update every 6 months or so. It's a free download, so you're not losing anything....

I skipped those updates based on feedback in this forum and will also wait with the upcoming 15.5.🙃

Welp, could still be the software but had another sign of problems today, system randomly blackscreened then rebooted while cruising and listening to XM. I told myself a year ago that if this bucket has anymore serious electrical problems I will bite the bullet and trade it in. Hope I won't have to but man, if this headunit goes out....

It may be the software on the phone not jiving with the car.
