If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Headlights flash when using turn signal

Just noticed mine doing this tonight. What's weird is the problem only happens when the lights are "On" and not in "Auto". I'll post a vid in a second.

Well, now it won't do it when I pull out the camera. I'll keep an eye on it and record when the opportunity presents itself.

I took mine in finally this week and they replaced the stalk no problem. Yeah, i reproduced it best when moving the stalk back and forth just before the click of the turn signal. On my car i would get the flash more frequently going towards the rt turn signal

To those who have had, or have, this problem, I'd ask you all to report this to the NHTSA as well. This issue happened to me again this morning and had it been dark, it could have gotten ugly because I was traveling at 50mph.

Report here:

Very valid point, especially since all Hyundai will do at this time is change the stalk to new one, which may develop the same problem later. They should look at the design and revise it to prevent the possibility of this occurring in the future. I will file a complaint, because that split second of lack of headlights may be the split second in which you wouldn't see a deer on the side of the road getting closer.

I called Hyundai USA and the rep said he had never heard of the issue. He gave me case number 6317003 and told me to make to take notes when it happened to again. Seems like this is known issue, I don't know what the problem is. I emailed the dealer with the URL of this discussion, I will let you know what happens.

2011 Genesis 4.6

Just had my low beams flicker after behaving well for a long time. Also with the turn signal. Going for an oil change on Saturday so I will mention this.

Hi There- 2008 Veracruz. I posted somewhere else on this forum. Dealership has had my vehicle for two weeks and can't repeat the problem. Yet, it happens to me many times a week... when I change lanes and don't snap signal into place with headlights in on position. They refuse to replace the turn signal, even though I've provided them this forum. My case number with Hyundai is 6308849. This isn't some minor electrical issue. My headlights are actually flickering and cutting off for several seconds at a time. I've already reported this to NHTSA. The dealership has run the diagnostics, nothing came up and they can't repeat the problem, so they are releasing the vehicle back to me. It will be $250 to replace the stalk. I guess I will have to pay for it, as I see no other option. Hyundai Corporate states that replacing the stalk will not fix the problem, yet they have no suggestions. Thank you for your time.

I wouldn't pay for it. This problem will do nothing but get bigger. I can see a recall soon.

At the dealership right now. They can't recreate the problem but I gave them the case number that was posted before. So far the dealer and local hyundai rep said they know nothing of this issue and will not do anything until they can see it.

Edit: Back from the dealer now, they could not cause it to flicker and said they can't do anything when they can't replicate it. Case number from Hyundai did not help and Hyundai did not have any fixes for this written up in their system.

Old thread, i know...

So I have this problem with my 2012 Genesis and I’m kicking myself for not taking it in under warranty 2 years ago. Any mechanic under here know what the actual problem is? I could buy the stalk for $402 and replace it myself, but if it’s just some hunidity corroding the connection, I’d love to avoid it. Thoughts are welcome. This doesn’t seem to pose a danger, but I’d like people to stop thinking I’m flashing them.

Well, I read this thread yesterday, having NO issues with my headlights when using the turn signals....then....this morning on the way to work, it started to turn off of the headlights for a few seconds when turn signal engaged, as others mentioned, only when headlights turned to the "on" position, no issue when in "Auto" position. Maybe it has been doing this for a while and I just noticed since I read this.. Guess I will be replacing mine as well
BTW 2011 4.6, 92,000 miles
Just a quick search on Amazon (Standard Motor Products CBS-1820 Combination Switch) says it will fit 2011 Genesis and only $65.
Found this one for $248
Standard® - Intermotor™ Fog Light Switch
I will have to further verify fitment before ordering.

Be sure to get the stalk that includes automatic wiper sensors if you have that on your Hyundai. Please report back.

I’m going to try to simply fix mine.

After researching the part on amazon, and the sellers website, the description is a little sketchy and the seller company has poor reviews, not going this route. The link for the $248 stalk from CARiD sounds like it would work, but let us know if you are able to repair your own, may go that route if its not too bad.

The headlights (NOT the DRL's) flash off and back on when using the turn signals. This happens when with using both the right and left signals, switch fully engaged or not. Also, the high beams have flashed when using the turn signals. The headlights have even stayed off for a few seconds before turning back on. Of course, this is intermittent, and did not happen when I had the dealer look at it.

Has anybody else had this issue? I want to head to the dealer with a solution so this does not become more of a hassle than it already is.

Thank you!
That has happened to me with my car trying to find out the problem

It's inevitable that it will happen at some point. I found a replacement from Autozone and got someone locally to install it for around $70.

I have had that problem. My car is still in the shop for that problem, and they can’t figure out why.

The problem is caused by an excess of silicon grease (goop) that is put into the multifunction switch (where it articulates inside the steering column) to give it that buttery smooth feel when you operate it. Over time that goop breaks down and begins to liquify and it runs down over the sliding contacts within the switch that are supposed to maintain continuity (power) to the headlights as the stalk moves through its motions. This results in intermittent loss of continuity as the contacts slide across the semi-liquid goop that has run across them. The more silicon grease that the assembly line tech put in the switch the more likely you’ll have a problem...that’s why not everyone has the problem. You may even see a shiny spot on the bottom left side of your steering column where the now-liquid goop has run down the left forward-most screw that holds the plastic clamshell around the steering column (see photo). It’s about a 20-minute job to remove and disassemble the switch and clean out the goop to eliminate the problem. It’s a real mess inside the switch. And any replacement switch that you put in may develop the same problem 55C619B3-48AC-46BE-84BD-4F33A7051DAA.jpeg
