Headlights turning off and on intermittently

Hello Everyone., We have a 2016 Genesis 3.8 sedan (137,000 km) and occasionally last fall it started turning off the lights when we would signal to make a turn. It has progressively gotten worse and now seems to decide at any time to turn them off after we signal, sometimes a few miles down the road at 100 km per hour! The only way we have been able to reduce the chance is (a) not drive at night (b) make sure the auto light feature is on. It also happens during the day but it is not a safety risk during the day. We have put in a call to a dealership for an appointment.
My questions are - have any of you gotten a resolution? Did they admit it is a Hyundai/Genesis problem.? What was resolution and approximately what was cost?

Do you mean (b) make sure the auto light feature is OFF? As in, manually turn your headlights on? I haven’t had them shut off on me at night yet.. but my plan was to simply switch them to the “on” position instead of relying on auto headlights, since this is when the “glitch” happens (when in auto headlight mode and using the turn signal).

Hello Confused. Good luck with the dealer. The vehicle is long out of warranty. The multi function switch needs to be replaced. But as a work around, you discovered keeping the lights in auto mode works. The twisty end on the stalks tightens down making the connection better. The other work around is to grab the stalk below the twisty part and activate your turn signals that way. Let me know if that works for you.

This happened again this week (Tuesday and Wednesday night) but this time I captured it on video. After I emailed th video to the new car manager, they have finally started to take some action. The local dealer has provided me a Genesis loaner until they can fix it. I received a call from a regional rep as well. I will keep you up to date as to the status

Finally. It should not have taken you this long for such a scary happening. I would keep the loaner until they have fixed your car for good. Put your mileage on the loaner. The dealership and Genesis corporate deserve the hit.

Hyundai has a 15 year unlimited mile extended warranty on the multifunction lever assembly. That's the signal stalk and wiper controls.

There is a TSB for a malfunctioning levers.
Mine did the same behavior, thankfully I have a dashcam.
I reported the issue to my local (Ontario Canada) Hyundai dealer w/ video proof and their service center got the lever replaced for me. Under warranty.
Just had to pay $100 deductible.

This is interesting to hear because my dealership in Halifax Nova Scotia told me the TSB does not apply to Canada and they would not do anything. I even brought it in with video proof just like you did and it documented it perfectly, and they said they cannot reproduce it so they won’t do anything.

Try a different dealership. Also I would contact the equivalent of Hyundai USA in Canada.

Re-reading your original message, it sounds like the TSB did not apply to you either. If they charged a $100 deductible, they were just doing warranty service (as you said) based on your video. The TSB covers the full multi function stalk in the US

At least they’ve covered yours with warranty though, that’s excellent. Was it original manufacturer warranty or aftermarket that you purchased? I have Canada General on mine, as I purchased used.

I started to have same issue with my car, lights are in Auto mode, and in night when trying to give a indicator, some times the lights flash(turn off and then on for a second)

Apologies for incomplete info from my end.
My car is under warranty.
I purchased a used car too, but during negotiations I got them to include extended warranty upto 200K.
That's why it was 100$ deductible.

My cars extended warranty is under Hyundai's HEP plan. Since I got my car from a Hyundai dealer, there was no other third party warranty plans on the table.
The dealer where i have been servicing my car for last 5+ years has Wynn Warranty coverage.
Talk to your local dealer and see if you qualify.
