Hello friends,
Just bought a "used" (dealer loaner) G70 3.3T with about 4,000 miles on it.
This is our third Genesis. My wife is currently driving a 2011 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 that we've had since 2014. It's been a great car, a real workhorse.
Our second Genesis was a 2017 G80 5.0 Ultimate I bought used from my father-in-law in 2020. Great car, I really loved it, but a couple weeks back an F-150 pulled out right in front of me and I T-boned her, totaling my nice Genesis. Although I loved the G80, I did find it a bit too big and heavy for me, too hard too maneuver in parking lots, and it just "drove big". Those were my only complaints.
So this time around I decided to give the G70 a try. I considered other makes, in particular the Infiniti Q50 and the Acura TLX, but in the end I came back to Genesis.
It's really too soon to tell whether I will love the smaller G70, but so far I like it. I can already tell it's not as roomy, not as comfortable, and not as quiet as the G80, but I knew those would be the trade-offs. I do love the features, and the interior, right down to the layout of the knobs, buttons, and switches -- not identical to my G80, but similar enough that I'm not lost. The addition of CarPlay is wonderful (but why not wireless???) and some of the other amenities are great -- like being able to invoke the overhead camera with just a button press, my G80 didn't have that cool feature. And that camera display that pops up when you put the blinker on: genius! Why did it take someone so long to invent THAT!?
The G80 had gobs of that wonderful low-end V8 torque, but I'll say this for the twin-turbo V6: on my way home from the dealer I had the chance to stomp the accelerator on the highway doing about 65 and when the transmission downshifted at the some time that turbo boost kicked in, well it was almost scary. I LOVED it!
More to come,
JT from Texas
Out with the old:

In with the "new" (YES, they actually put one of those cheese ribbons on my car; if I hadn't already signed the paperwork, I might have walked out).
