  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Welcome. Moving this to the Genesis Sedan section.

I had this issue with my 2011 4.6. I had the alternator replaced and fixed the issue.

yep I did the same .A year after replacement and runs great average voltage14.6- 14.7

Battery light = alternator. DIS will also show the "don't run the entertainment system while car is off" warning periodically.

Voltage regulator is inside the alternator.

Same symptom on my car, replaced my alternator under HPP Platinum warranty. Been fine since.

Yep, it is alternator. Got battery light on early March. Alternator was replaced. All good now.

May 2011 with 80,000 mi. had the alternator fail as well. Replaced it.

make sure you use OEM, I had an aftermarket one which was still throwing code and failed a year later.

What code did it throw? Or did the battery light stay on? I have an ‘09 4.6l and I just replaced the battery & alternator. The battery light is still on and the voltage is only 13.9V coming from the alt.

Yes, my light recently came on, thought I probably needed a new battery since it was several years old. But the battery checked out okay. Took it to a shop and they said it needed a new alternator. Of course, the alternator for a 4.6 is rare, so the price for just the alternator was ~$500. The new alternator fixed the problem.

These alternators must expire about the same time. My 2011 went out last year. I got a cheaper rebuilt one from eBay, but I I had difficulty getting it to mount, as the mounting bolts must line up precisely.

10 model years is a good lifetime for an alternator. Doesn't matter what car it's on or who made it. Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Chrysler, Chevy, Ford... doesn't matter. They're light bulbs, and sooner or later they will fail. Most tend to go around 8-10 years and 80-200k miles. YMMV

With Genesis sedans the OEM parts are single source / monopoly priced just like everything else on our cars: expensive to fix.

Would the alternator have any effect on the power steering? My light came on about 3 days ago and this morning I had a difficult time turning into the parking lot at work. Steering wheel seemed to be resisting me. Wondering if this issue may be related to the alternator or if I have 2 separate problems.
