  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I lowered my car on ARK coilovers, probably the first coilovers on a genesis sedan in the US ;), over the weekend. The car now sits nice and low but I now have a problem with the headlights. My auto leveling headlights now pointed several degrees higher than normal. My headlights now looks like high beam. Is there a way to adjust this or turn it off completely? I know on cars without autoleveling, you can just turn the knobs behind the headlights to adjust the level.

Who cares about that! We want to know how it changed the ride! ;)

I'm confused...

  1. On one hand you say "My auto leveling headlights..."
  2. Then later say "I know on auto leveling headlight cars, you can just turn the knobs behind the headlights to adjust the level"
  3. Yet ask the question "Is there a way to adjust this or turn it off completely?"

Like you suspect, I believe you can adjust the recessed screws near the lights but you should do a search because someone else asked this a couple months back.

Alternatively, there is a button next to the ESC to stop the auto leveling, but it needs to be pressed every time you enter the car and wouldn't solve your misalignment.

Good luck and fill us in on the suspension!

Any Hyundai owner can create a personal userID on www.hmaservice.com and then access the equivalent of factory service manuals. The manuals load one page at a time so you can't download them, but you can view/print individual pages quickly and easily even over dial-up connections. The headlight section includes how to calibrate/adjust the auto-leveling headlights. The pics/diagrams are pretty darn good too so you don't have to be a Hyundai trained mechanic to understand what's going on.

I mean on cars without autoleveling.
The ride better I think since you can adjust the dampening of the coilovers. I left mine at the middle, 8, to test it out. So far I'm happy with the ride quality. One thing though, once mounted, the dampening adjustment knob hidden so there is no way to adjust the dampening without removing the coilovers again. This is when an external reservoir per strut is needed to have easier access to the dampening adjustment

CONGRATS ON THE COILOVERS!

To re-aim the headlights:

-open hood
-get a LOOOONNGGG phillips head
-you will see a hole on each side of the car in the black plastic about 6 inches back from the front of the engine bay with the letters U and D.
-turn the screwdriver in the direction you wish to go.

***this will set the standard as to where the lights will auto-level everytime you turn them on.**

It is SUPER EASY...just had to know where to look :)

Thanks, I just bought a 20" long phillips. I just hope that it is not too long. The next shorter one is only 8" long. I didnt think that would be long enough

Hello,
I took a piece of a coat hanger and measured the depth of the U-D head light adjustment hole at 7 1/4"

Learn from my mistakes on headlamp adjustment.

After installing an HID kit to my Genny, I had to adjust and lower the low beam to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers. I first used a long straight slot screw driver and seemed to do the job. Well, until the plastic teeth on the adjustment screw was stripped, and I'm still a long way in aiming the lamp to my "desired" aimpoint.

1. Be careful in using the straight slot screw driver thru the hole provided. If you feel the teeth being stripped or not getting anywhere with your adjustment, the plastic teeth are most likely worn out. As in mine.

2. NOT TO WORRY! remove the "halfmoon" shape access cover next to the headlight and then look behind the headlight housing, just below the cover of the high beam bulb. You will see a white plastic with internal wrench of 12mm.

3. The 12mm allen, if you have one, is a 1/2 inch drive and will be too huge to fit in that small area. Don't worry again, I used a 12mm bolt head to fit the plastic adjusting nut. I just added a nut to the bolt thread so I can put a socket over the nut and able to turn it using a 1/4 inch ratchet. Works very well.

***** On Genny's equipped with auto leveling headlight, there are sensor on each wheel well to detect the ride height and automatically adjust the headlights aim to optimum level. ****

Is there any procedure that needs to be done electronically for the AFSL system prior to, or after the mechanical adjustments?
