I actually owned a 2000 Avalon for 11 years before buying the Genny and it was a very reliable car. It had shortcomings in the power department, rolled too much in the corners, the front seats were uncomfortable (for me) and I could not see the dash instrumentation when the steering
wheel was properly adjusted. Far and away though it was the best car I ever owned.
But when we decided to give it to my daughter and I went shopping for a new car I decided to see if the Genesis actually lived up to its credentials in the auto magazines. I actually was in the market for a 3.8 but spotted an R-spec on the back lot, took it for a test drive (out of curiosity) and ended up buying it.
I have only one complaint - it has too many bells and whistles (features). I could do without a bunch of the features that make it a luxo-car. Basically all I wanted was the suspension, engine and a great audio system. Anything else is overkill. But it is fun overkill and I am very happy with it.
