  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fellow experts I need your advice. I have a friend who works at a local new car dealer and while I was visiting him they took a 2012 R-spec in on trade. I told my buddy how much I liked the new headlights and tail lights and he said If I wanted to swap them before they put the car up for sale he would swap them out for me (yipee).

So now here is the question I need answered, the R-spec has brand new aftermarket 20" wheels that I want, he said he would just take my factory wheels and swap them out no charge. Does anybody know if the factory 18" wheels off a 2011 V6 will fit on the 2012 R-spec with the different brakes?

I know the 20" will fit my car but we wanted to be sure the 18's will fit on the R-spec...

These are the style of my factory wheels....

Thanks guy's

I don't think the lights or wheels will work. Unless you have the tech package with the DIS knob then the lighting will not work. The R-spec has AFL system and different amperage requirements. The r-spec would also show error codes on the dash warning lights if it has the v6 lighting installed. Also, the brake rotors are larger with larger calipers so its unlikely that the 18" will fit on the front of the R-spec.

Thank you for the response, I do have the AFLS and Tech package on my 2011 so I am hoping that the lights will not be an issue, Can anyone here chime in and let me know for sure?

We can try the wheels simply enough, If they work they work, if not it's not a big deal. My real concern is the headlights..

Hopefully someone can have a definitive answer...

Happy Holiday's guys!

There is really nothing preventing you from doing this - (some shady dealers do this all the time)... notwithstanding why would your friend even be willing to swap headlights from the R-spec to your car. The R-spec lights have the smoked lenses, in addition to being the 2012 MMC lights they have the LED strip. These two features allow the lights to sand out which not only signify 'hey I'm an R-spec', but also it's a 2012. By replacing the R-spec lights with yours he would be lowing the value of his asset (the used car). Most potential buyers would be thrown off right from the beginning as it would look amiss...

I know personally if I was in the market for a used R-spec and I saw one with 2011 headlights I would steer far, far away from it....

While I agree he is lowering the value of his car, he is doing me a favor. I'm not sure I asked if it would lower his value I think that is obvious.:welcome:

The chances of this vehicle being sold to a retired couple based on their demographics are about 80%, he's not concerned about lowering the value and neither am I, we are concerned that the headlights are not going to cause any issues such as warning lights etc...

Thanks

“Sold to a retired couple” makes it all right to bone out a fairly new car as a favor to you.

Too bad you didn’t post your location and the name of the dealer that would try and pull such a dirt bag trick on someone retired or not.

People pay hard earned money for a nice car and it is unconscionable that a dealer would pull something like this on someone.

How would you like to be the sucker who buys this car after you and your buddy get done with it?

^ Agreed

The charge is FRAUD to the dealer and ACCESSORY TO FRAUD to the original poster here. With any luck, though, you may be granted conjugal visits.

Are you serious? Wait, don't answer that... I don't want to hear your answer counselor... I'm sure you wanted to grow up to be an attorney but lack of obvious education has reduced you to giving legal advice on a forum..

The dealer owns the vehicle, he can do what ever the hell he wants to it... If he wants to put VW headlights on it he can, just like you changing something on your car and trading it or selling it... Engage brain before opening mouth.:welcome:

(Southern) I will go to church and repent cause you must be right, I know that this is a bad bad dealer that screws over unsuspecting consumers... As a matter of fact, I'm reporting him to the AG for changing something on a car he owns.... Get a life:rolleyes:

You won't get any help from me to screw over someone. Maybe somebody on this site is willing to help you, but I'll bet it won't be many.

Still waiting for dealers name and location. I guess we'll be waiting until hell freezes over uh.

I'm sure your buddy is going to tell whoever purchases that car that he boned it out for his friend.

You should consider going to church, because what goes around comes around remember that.

cars.com only shows 23 used R-spec's nationwide....

Should be pretty easy to spot one that looks out of place.

No conjugal visits for you!

HaHaHa, what dealer in his right mind is going to strip down a 2012 luxury vehicle and put 2011 taillights on it?

So lets understand this ...your buddy, an employee of a car dealer( not the owner I take it) is willing to "swap" some items from a piece of his employer's inventory. Smells a little theft at worst...lets see 2000 bucks worth of custom wheels and tires is tha a felony or just a misdemeanor where you live?
Now to the"who would know and how"....person buying a used RSpec would never catch the wheels right as most Hyundai buyers are nebishes. But just in case he did and your friend is UC manager and he makes adjustment to price or has to replace wheels and boss finds out and prosecutes...where do you stand in line for prosecution??
Save your money and buy your own wheels!
