  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all. So, I made the unfortunate mistake of ordering lemonade at a popular drive-thru, and it happened to have a lid that was not so secure... At the time I used napkins to clean it all up but realized it was a lot more than spilled out than I had originally thought. Went into the wireless charging mat and all over the buttons (auto-hold, traction control off, parking cameras, parking sensors, and the mode selection dial).

I did my best and got the wireless charging area cleaned well, and used a small wheel brush with some interior cleaner to try to get inside the small edges of the buttons and the dial, and it helped somewhat... but the buttons are not even close to what they are normally. So the question I'm asking is, is there any guide or easy way to remove that entire piece so I can pull the buttons out and clean it thoroughly? Any advise would be much appreciated, because I honestly hate it, drives me nuts.

I outlined the area that got affected that is difficult to actually clean.

Thanks.

Bringing the post back to life. I just bought a used G70 that has the same issue. Previous owner spilled something because the buttons are very sticky.

Hey OldCoot! So I was able to fix all of my buttons by getting a small detail type of brush, something similar to this: Detail brush kit and using isopropyl alcohol and a very thin flathead bit and getting the crud loosened up that way, and maneuvering the button around. One possible way to do it.

I hope this helps, and thanks for bumping this up!

Thank you for your response. Alcohol sounds like a good idea. I was going to use a little WD40 to loosen things up but then I thought better because it will seep into places it is not supposed to go. Alcohol will evaporate quickly.

Yeah! Might have to do it a few times, my buttons are sticking again so gonna try it a few more times but hopefully that'll fix it. I supposed you could go to the dealership if under warranty, but that might be a last resort.

So I ended up taking my car to the dealership for some other things (the smoked chrome window trim fading, and my rims peeling) and I mentioned to them about my buttons sticking as they started to again. They fixed it for free. Granted, my car is newer and under warranty but Genesis, if you have a good dealership, seems to care about providing a higher level of care. So potentially, anytime you go for an oil change or something, mention it and they might also clean it out for free. Just a thought.
