  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New 2024 G70 owner.
Dealer gave 2 remotes & 2 physical keys ( flat sort of shaped like the number 7).
How do I get the key into the remote?

I don't think that the mechanical keys go in the smart key for 2024. Check your owner's manual.

Tried the owners manual. No mention. Cant find any thing on line or you tube either.

Okay, I downloaded the owner's manual. It actually mentions the mechanical key twenty times. You will probably want to start at page 5-11. The mechanical key no longer stores in the smart key, you have to keep it separate (this seems dumb to me).

Yes, found every thing about the key except for inserting/installing inside the key FOB.
The photos on the page that shows how to replace the battery does not show the physical key inside.

So what happens if I am away from home and Fob’s battery dies? I and not going to be carrying a Fob and the physical key. So, yes, sounds dumb.

Get a magnetic key holder that you can hide under the car.

It does not sound dumb, it is dumb. Outside of the case it comes in, does it fit in your wallet?

Have not seen those magnetic boxes in years. Will go hunting. The metal key itself may fit in my wallet. As far as the remote goes I usually don’t have any key on the ring. Real world problems. Right? Thx and take care.

Wow, all my prior vehicles and my 2020 G70 have the extra key stored in the FOB. Only one thing for me to keep up with. If my FOB craps out my issue will be removing the tiny key hole cover on the door handle without damaging it. Yes, dumb to separate the FOB and the key so would be interesting to hear why HMC did that? Way back in the day before all this electronic FOB and push button starting existed, when all cars took real keys, I used to have a credit card key kept in my wallet. Basically just in case I lost my keys somehow. The credit card key was mostly plastic so had limited number of uses, but it stored in my wallet just like a credit card so was always with me. Good back up, at least I thought so way back in the day.

I went and checked both FOB. Both have the mechanical key inside and there is one extra. 2023 GV70

Yes, 2023 is different.

I am a brand new owner since yesterday, of a 2024 GV70 3.5 Sport Advanced. I got two fobs and a mechanical key. Both fobs have a mechanical key inside, and I have the additional mechanical key, for a total of 3 mechanical keys. My digital owners manual says that mechanical keys should be in the fob. Not sure why I got the extra mechanical key.

My 2022 gv70 has mechanical key in fob. My 2024 it is separate. Don’t know why I asked dealer yesterday and he mumbled something about the key causing problems when inside fob. They are different fobs though bc I did not have remote parking assist on my 2022.

I have a '23 G70 2.0T SP, and it has the physical keys inside the fobs. I also got an extra spare, I think, but the issue is you need tools to take the freaking fob apart. Or maybe a dime or something, but that would damage the plastic. I typically change the batteries every 2 years, to avoid ever having to use the physical key. Then you need to remove the car part too, risking chipping the paint, or even losing the darn thing if not put back correctly.
