  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A good friend of mine bought a new 4 cylinder turbo Porsche Macan earlier this year and just had his first service at the dealer - an oil change. Here's how it went.

No dealer in our area, so he had to call and book an appointment for the closest dealer an hour's drive (100Km or 60 Miles from home). No concierge service. He bought the car from a dealership near Toronto (about a 2.5 Hr drive from home) but wanted it serviced closer to home.

Upon arriving at the dealership he noted that it was a smaller dealership (being in a smaller market than where he bought) but it was newly built and was very opulent. A little foreshadowing to be sure!

The employees were very professional, all wearing Porsche polo shirts and friendly smiles. The service advisor booked his car for service and went over the work to be done. Oil change. "Oh sir, it's much more than an oil change, we must complete your total vehicle inspection" and showed him the list of work. He said he thought he was just having the oil changed, but the advisor said "but you must have the inspection done to validate your vehicle's warranty". Ok. He had a friend pick him up at the dealer to go for lunch.

Returning from lunch, he was told that the vehicle service was complete and the team was just completing the detailing of the car. "Let's go over the results of your service work" says the advisor.

"Ok, we changed the oil and filter using genuine Porsche supplies, we also changed your wiper blades..." to which my friend says, "but the car only has 12000 Km's on it... The advisor says, "not to worry, wiper blades are changed with each oil change and are COMPLIMENTARY!" Nice. "We also changed your key fob battery which was $12 - we wouldn't want to risk you being stranded with a dead key sir and we of course professionally detailed your car. The inspection went without a hitch (not a surprise with the low mileage) so your total bill with tax is $495.95".

OUCH - that was a bit of a shock, but after all it is a Porsche so it is what it is apparently.

But the wiper refills were complimentary...

That is about $392USD. I've had 6 free oil changes from Genesis over the past three years and they never gave me wiper blades. I feel cheated now.

It was like 250 to change the oil in my Alfa. Exotic cars are expensive.

That's simply outrageous treatment from Genesis. You should not be expected to put up with such flagrant abuse from an auto manufacturer. Obviously Porsche has learned how to "treat" their customers properly from years of experience.

His "exotic" car has a 2.0 Turbo engine derived from the EA888 unit you'll find throughout much of the Volkswagen empire. But hey, it's a Porsche!

The Alfa was a multi air derived fiat. 🤷‍♂️

They wanted some crazy exotic oil that was like 30 bucks a quart.

My BMW motorcycle uses 5 qts of oil and if I take it to the dealer they charge 30 bucks a qt. I can get very similar oil for 10 bucks. It's a dealer issue as much as anything.
