  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The boy-scout in me always wants to be prepared, so in my last car (Sonata) I hid a spare metal key underneath the car just in case the unthinkable ever happened and I lost my keys. But with the new smart-keys for my Genesis that is not an option. I have the Blue Link app so I can open and/or start the car from my phone but I understand that that app is just for starting to pre-warm or pre-cool the car and it will time-out - one cannot drive away after starting the car with the Blue Link app.

My question is this: Can I place a spare smart-key in my trunk and, if the unthinkable happens and I lose my smart-key, can I then use Blue Link to open the car thereby allowing me to open the trunk and retrieve the spare?

Though I haven't tried this on my Genesis, if I tried the same in my former '11 Acura TL, the trunk wouldn't close. It would just keep popping back open. I tried a few time to close it, and then realized I had dropped my keys in the trunk.

Yes however you need to wrap it in aluminum foil or remove the battery.

I put a working fob w/battery in an Altoids (mint) box - wrapped it in foil, and put it in the trunk. ***

I took the metal key from the fob and put it in a magnetic hide-a-key box under the car.

*** the metal altoids box did not provide enough shielding - hence the additional foil wrap.

My last car came with whats called a wallet key.Its a flat key that you stick in your wallet also the doors only relock if you haven't opened the door.If your afraid of unlocking your doors, opening it up, and leaving your keys it the car and then it lock,if any problem persist contact to Tamarac Locksmith.
