  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

as the HID lights on other cars I've seen. It seems like some other cars with HIDs illuminate the road much brighter. These actually don't seem that much brighter than the low beams on my last car, which used the standard 9006 bulbs(although I was using HIR-2 bulbs and a wiring harness). How satisfied are you with the HIDs on your Genesis?

Also, does anybody know exactly what HID bulb comes in the 2012 Genesis?

and

Has anybody tried this Osram Xenarc Silverstar, and was it any brighter than stock?

Hi, Congrat's a nice choice..
well to me the lighting is pretty damn good, High beams are maybe a little too high.. This is the first vehicle I have not found it necessary to upgrade any of the bulbs..
Maybe get the lighting checked out at another "H" dealership..

Thanks. Actually, the low beam HIDs seem like they might be a bit too high to me, since I noticed that the beam is hitting and reflecting up pretty high off of traffic signs on the side of the road. Lowering them a bit would intensify the lighting in front of the car, but since they are apparently self-leveling I don't know if that is possible.

Yes the regular beams cover a wide area.. I believe there is some adjustment possible within the parameters...I reckon a headlight Alignment is in order..

On all the results and trials of third party bulbs the only ones I have found that offer something extra are the Ultra's.
The units you mentioned are well overpriced and due to the extra heat may well damage your light units or even your wiring looms...........

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The lights automatically adjust for height, but must have the "zero" point manually set properly first. If the lights are set too high in the first place, all the automatic system does in ensure that they are kept in that "too high" attitude no matter how much weight is in the truck (or back seats).

There is a thread on how to manually adjust the "zero point" somewhere on the forum. Time for a search...

As to the OP's point...yes. These HID's suck bad. My lexus RX330 projectors were at least 10 times better than my Genesis. It was a VERY disappointing kick in the eyes.

I have since changed the bulbs out to: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=3179 in 5000K and have had better light output

Hey thanks for that info; glad I'm not the only one underwhelmed with the HIDs on the Genny. I do have a few questions if you have a chance to answer from your experience.

I did see these Morimoto bulbs when I was looking around, but I guess I assumed they would not compete with the Osram Xenarc Silverstar I posted the review about above, but maybe they do. And it looks like you get TWO bulbs for $75! Usually, the rule is that if something seems to good to be true, it likely is.

Have you or anybody you know of compared them to the Osram's?

Secondly, how much brighter would you say the Moromoto are than the original bulbs?

Thirdly, exactly what is the original bulb brand and model, and why would it be comparatively dim?

Fourth, with the Morimoto bulbs, how close did the lighting get to what you had with your RX330?

Fifth, do we know if the Genesis lighting system and wiring are providing the full 35 watts and voltage to the bulbs?

Thanks much in advance!

Have you or anybody you know of compared them to the Osram's? I have not directly compared them to the Osrams. However, I have compared them to an 85122+ here:

85122+:

Morimoto 5000K:

Secondly, how much brighter would you say the Moromoto are than the original bulbs? Not tons brighter. I have come to the conclusion that the optics of the projector, along with the lens are just not quite up to par with a luxury car. This is a disappointing revelation, IMHO

Thirdly, exactly what is the original bulb brand and model, and why would it be comparatively dim? I believe the OEM are Xenstarts. I have even found a pic of them:

Fourth, with the Morimoto bulbs, how close did the lighting get to what you had with your RX330? With the addition of the Morimoto bulbs, my lighting is still leaps and bounds away from my RX's. These are my RX's after a few months of use:

63' wide and full color spread.

Fifth, do we know if the Genesis lighting system and wiring are providing the full 35 watts and voltage to the bulbs? This I don't know at all.

Thanks much in advance!

"I have come to the conclusion that the optics of the projector, along with the lens are just not quite up to par with a luxury car."

Thanks for the reply and pics! I did call The Retrofit Source, and the guy there said that the stock lens in the lights may not be exactly clear, but a bit gray and cuts down on light. Apparently this is the case with most if not all autos with HID lights.

He said the first thing he would do is replace the stock lenses with clear lenses that he sells. He stated this requires taking the light assemblies apart to get to the lenses and swap them out. He said you have to put them in the oven for a while at 250 degrees to separate the assembly, and then you can get to the lenses. I'm not sure I want to attempt this. I wonder if anybody has any experience with this?

BTW he does sell the Osram Silverstar Xenarc, and he maintains they are significantly brighter than the Morimoto bulbs.

That was a fantastic call. If you're wondering who has experience baking headlights...you're lookin at him.

I wont be doing that again, BTW

I will be swapping lenses when I retrofit the highbeam with a Morimoto Mini bi-xenon setup. While doing the preliminary research, TRS does not recommend using anything other than the Osram bulbs. Their site specifically states that the Morimoto bulbs in D1S are not compatible with Hyundai. FWIW

Compatibility
Headlights: D1S Only; Not recommended for Hyundais/Kias

I used H11 bulbs for my lowbeams and I went with Morimoto. Wow are they ever reliable! Far superior in quality compared to DDM Tuning.

Sorry, I should clarify...that is for the HID lie beams
