  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I had to share this with everyone. So, I'm on my way to a client lunch minding my own business when an e550 comes up behind me, FAST. So I'm thinking here we go, I slide the shift over to manual and drop down into 3rd (at about 80) and see ya 550, so I thought. He comes on hard and we go back and forth for awhile on the highway (very light traffic). I want to finish by saying I normally don't do this but, I look down and we are approaching 150mph  him in front me right off his back bumper (I think i could have passed him). I can tell you the Genesis was very solid, not floaty, or bouncey. Once we realized how fast we were going we both backed down. Now the best part, he pulls up beside me rolls down the window, gives the Genesis a once over, looks at me and gives me the thumbs up! Once my heart rate lowered to a non fatal rate it felt pretty good knowing the car could hang with a very nice, expensice car which was suprisingly quick. Now off to the gas station

WOW CRUPP...F...AWESOME.
Thanks for sharing...

Wow, very nice story! Nice to hear that the car was able to reach 150 MPH with little trouble, and that it was hanging in there with a $62,000 car.

2009 Merc E550

MSRP $61,700
5.5L V8, 32 valves, 382 hp @ 6000 rpm
7 speed automatic transmission
15 mpg city / 22 mpg hwy
0-60 MPH 5.3 seconds

so the Merc is 1/2 second faster than the Genesis, but it also has wider rubber all-around, and a 7-speed automatic, so I am sure the low gears are more agressive.

Cool story. Glad to hear the MB owner was a real enthusiast and not some brand snob. :)

150mph is not cool, unless you were on a racetrack.

Glad I wasn't driving with my family near you and the other idiot.

Now, now...do you feel good calling someone an IDIOT?
It amazes me that it doesn't bother you one ayotta to call someone an IDIOT!

I agree it was not smart. Not sure Idiot is appropriate. But there was no traffic and it was for a very brief time. I also have a family and would never do anything to endanger anothers persons family.

I don't mean to be a jerk, and idiot is a harsh word, but I guarantee you would have felt much worse than that word if something had gone wrong.

At 150mph, you can barely adjust for any in-lane traffic.

While the jist of the message that the Genesis handles well at that speed is appreciated, a story about racing someone on the streets of Atlanta at 150mph is fodder for the evening news.

Okay. Name calling IS against the rules, but I think you reprieved yourself with your last post, mhoepfin. I don't "condone" street racing but I did find the story interesting..

Well said Sal:)

a 80K Nissan GTR can beat at 250K Ferrari.. needless to say to eat the Porsche turbo for lunch...
Always, there is nothing about the brand of the car.... as long as they are in the similar ranks... at the end of day, the balls matter. ;-)

Sorry for causing a stir, that was not my intent. The story was told because of the reaction of person driving a 65k plus car and the respect he showed. I do not condon AT ALL doing those speeds and frankly did not realize how fast we were going until I looked down and at that point backed way off.

Again, sorry if any take offense

Oh, your gonna make a lot of friends here newbie.

Why is everyone so obessed in posting EVERYTHING in the Genesis sedan forum is beyond me....

Moving to Lounge!!!

Because the description of the Lounge is:

"Forum for off-topic discussions ONLY"

and description of the Genesis Sedan forum is:

"Forum for discussions regarding the Hyundai Genesis Sedan that don't fit specifically anywhere else."

Since his post discusses his speed and experience in his Genesis Sedan, that certainly doesn't seem "Off-topic" to me. Not only that but, as a person who has limited time, I always find it annoying when fairly low-traffic forums have 5 different categories that I'm supposed to decide where to post stuff. I'm interested in all the stuff about my Genesis, but I rarely check anything other than the main Genesis Sedan forum.

Of course you're the moderator, do whatever you want, but I think you're wrong on this one for sure.

SWEET!!!! Oh, how I would love that opportunity!!!

Side note...I am moving this to the COMPETETION forum. :)

Yes, Competition forum would be more suitable. I think Sal needs to have a better description of these forums.

About 19 months ago, a friend's father was killed by two street racers just a two blocks from his home (his wife heard the collision in her home). One street racer was driving a AMG Mercedes and the other a Mustang. Both racers struck the victim's vehicle who was driving a classic 1973 Camero (a pretty hefty car).

You can see what little there is left of the Camero in the pictures below. The two racers suffered only minor injuries (one suffered a broken arm). They are awaiting trial on charges of 2nd degree murder. Civil charges against the defendants are also pending.
