  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How comfortable are the seats?

I am looking at the Genesis now. I haven't decided between the 3.8 and the 5.0. I want the ultimate package in whichever I go with. I would guess the seats will be similar, but how comfortable are they? I have had luxury cars in the past Lexus 400 (the old original) and an Audi A6 which had really hard seats. They were really tiresome. My current car is a lexus Ls460 which has very comfortable seats. I heard one review that said the new genesis seats were somewhat hard. I also have seen a few posts here that say that the car is very comfortable on long trips. I haven't seen anything here that really addresses the seats. So, for those who have had the new Genesis for awhile, what do you think? Are you happy? Would you change them?

One other question; I like the fuel economy of the 3.8 but have been used to 8 cylinder cars for awhile. Does the 3.8 do well when you are cruising at 35 mph and need to punch it to pass someone? Also does it push you up mountain roads without straining. I will be test driving them soon but I appreciate the advice of people who have logged a lot of hours at the wheel.

I've had my 3.8 AWD Ultimate since June and have put a little over 2,000 miles on it - the seats are incredibly comfortable: very supportive and adjustable and not at all hard. I'm very pleased with the quality of the 2015 seats (front & rear). BTW seats are the same between the 3.8 and 5.0 liter Ultimate (actually the better seats are standard on the 5.0 and optional on the 3.8 where you need to get at least the Tech package).

The 3.8 has plenty of power in my experience. It's not a rocket off the line and I'm sure the 5.0 is better in that respect. However, acceleration once rolling is really good and the power comes on quite strong at passing speeds - floor it to pass somebody at, say 50-60 mph, and you'll be doing 80-90 + before you realize it. Again, I'm sure the 5.0 is quicker, but I've found the 3.8 does not leave me wanting for passing power and overall drive-ability. Plus the AWD is great (will be really beneficial here in the Northeast if last winter is any indication of what's to come this year).

Agree on all counts.

09-14 seats were good for comfort, but lacked lateral support for the spirited driving crowd.

The 2015 seats are vastly improved in both comfort, adjustability and support. In a word: perfect!

I will second this. ;)

Thanks for the input. I need to drive both models to get a better feel for the power. I would rather have the better mileage of the 3.8.

I third this, ive been inside many luxury vehicles, but damn these seats are just comfortable. It took me a while getting used to them but the seats sure get you nicely tucked in. I specifically enjoying how the side bolstering hugs you when you turn the car on.

I fourth this. We just returned from a 10 day, 1000 mile vacation up in the Lake George NY and Burlington Vt area. I was the only driver and even on the long days, I felt very comfortable. My family members also felt the same while sitting in the back seat. We're off to another 6 day vacation up in the Adirondacks beginning Tuesday night and are not dreading it at all. We had a 545i and a Pilot - the passengers in the back were never at ease.

The seats are very comfortable. I have the 5.0 Ultimate package. They are very supportive. I recently had to go on a 600 mile round trip (total of 8 hours in the car with a short break for lunch at the halfway point), and the seats remained comfortable throughout the entire trip.
