  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
LDWS alerts the driver with a visual warning and steering wheel vibration warning when the system detects the vehicle departing the lane. "The steering wheel will not be controlled." What does this mean? will not be controlled by who? the driver or the LKAS?
Pre-Departure Control
LKAS assists the driver by control- ling the steering wheel before lane departure. When the vehicle is near the edge of the lane, LKAS starts controlling the steering wheel to assist the driver to stay in the lane.
Post-Departure Control
LKAS assists the driver by control- ling the steering wheel when lane departure has started. When the vehicle's front wheel contacts the inside edge of lane line, LKAS starts controlling the steering wheel to assist the driver to stay in the lane.

Thanks. trying to make a poll but I can't figure out how.:)

The steering wheel will not be controlled by the car. Set it at Pre-D. This way the car will help keep you in your lane if you are drifting tio close to a determined lane line by steering for you. LDWS will warn you but not correct/steer for you. I haven't tried Post but I think it will vibrate and the correct after you go over the lines.

I have mine set in the LKAS pre-departure mode. It's been set that way since I took delivery of the vehicle and I'll probably keep it that way. As I remember someone saying the last time this subject came around, I never realized how bad a driver I am until now!

I checked how my LKAS was set-up: LDWS and changed it to pre-departure . Now , experiencing the "help" of the steering wheel :)

I usually have my LDWS off. If I'm crowding the middle line going around a curve, I'm doing that on purpose, and I don't need no stinking nanny beeping at me about it! I do tend to use it more on long interstate trips, especially if I'm getting a little tired.

When there are two turn lanes and you are in the outside lane, LKAS gets agitated when you put on your blinker. It thinks you want to change lanes when you are just signaling for the turn. I tend to turn it off on slower roads.

Does anyone know how the steering wheel senses your hands? If I rest one hand at the bottom of the steering wheel, LKAS thinks I'm driving with no hands.

I think the steering wheel is sensed by the driver moving the wheel at all. I once was driving with my hands firmly on the wheel, but happened to leave the wheel straight for a while, and the car complained.

There will be a very sensitive steering position sensor that will be able to detect very small inputs. No I put for a while will trigger the nanny.

Pre departure and cruise control so you can drink and drive
