  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How do I disable pet motion alarm when parked
Why do you call it a pet motion alarm?

I find that notification extremely helpful. It seems like it remembers when the back door is opened and gives the notification after a drive and park.

I always forget my dry cleaning in the back seat; not anymore with the alert. I sometimes charge my Bluetooth speaker in the backseat for golf, and it reminds me when it is back there too. I can’t imagine wanting to turn it off unless it is malfunctioning.

Just curious, if you truly have a pet or a kid why would you ever disable it? The grief that some have experienced that led to these alarms in the first place, for ordinary people leaving a sleeping kid or a pet in the back seat; I would never tempt fate.

Because it is a motion activated alert. It does not detect stationary objects. See the clip from the owner's manual which I posted above.

I had to disable it on the Palisade Calligraphy because even with the panoroof closed it would set off the alarm any time the sun went in and out of behind some clouds and it was parked outside. This combined with your items in the back may be what is triggering your secondary alerts - if you are getting them (horn blowing within 10 minutes of parking). The primary alert on the dash is by default and will always display if the system is enabled - even if you have nothing back there.

Yes. No kids or pets to worry about, but I had to disable ours while transporting some things, including balloons. We stopped a couple of times along the way, and the horn sounded each time. It finally hit me, it's the balloons moving around back there. Duh!

Got it. Yeah the rear door opening activates the alarm before setting off on a drive, and you will get the alert regardless of motion when you open the driver’s door. I happily tolerate this feature because it generally means I put something back there. Then apparently the motion detection is then active for an additional 8 hours, car on or off. I am anal about keeping the sun out of the car for temperature reasons and for sun damage to the interior. The shades are always up unless I am driving with sunroof open.

I have had the car beep for what seemed like strange reasons which I now know is this alert thanks to this thread.

Never had issues with it in my Palisade either….no kids or pets so my use cases are reduced significantly compared to those with pets or kids or reasons for significant use of the backseat.

Genesis definitely recommends:
  • Ensure windows and sunroof are fully closed before locking the vehicle to prevent wind or other factors from triggering the sensor.
