  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Quite certain smart trunk operation is correctly set, yet it doesn't work all the time...even when given the same conditions. Is this something that is common, or am I missing something?

Only thing you should have to do is have the fob and stand in the distance it senses. By same conditions do you mean distance and car locked? I never had a problem but if you put the fob in the same pocket as your phone it could possibly make a difference.

Mine have been working flawlessly since day one.

Before reading the manual, I did not realize the car had to be locked for it to work and the key cannot be "sensed" for something like 60 seconds after locking it. So it won't work if you don't walk far enough or for long enough away from the car before returning.

I think it’s more like 15 seconds, but yes. The car needs to be locked, you need to walk some distance away from it, and then return and stand a couple of feet away from the trunk for a few seconds.

Thanks all for your replies. Car locked, wait 15-30 seconds, walk far enough away and then return: Although I read the manual, I somehow missed these criteria; but, I honestly thought that's what had to be done...just not sure until now.

Not a G70 here, but if I lock the doors on my way out using the button on the inside of the driver's or passenger's door the mirrors don't retract AND the trunk feature is disabled. Only by pressing the lock button on the outside of the driver's or passenger's door (once all doors are closed) or with a key fob will the automatic trunk feature be enabled. I use the keycard so there's no "fob" button for me to press. Same family of cars...

Is the car beeping when you walk up to it? If not you haven't met the conditions.

4 beeps and 4 light flashes then *POP*

Yes, beeps and lights flash. I'm now sure it is working correctly.
