  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I want to buy a used 2019-2021 g70 3.3t awd. How's reliability? I heard that the powertrain is built strong. How about electrical issues and are there many rattles?

With the exception of having to put on proper brake pads (the OEMs suck, resulting in brake vibration) and an exploding sunroof, my 2019 3.3T AWD with 27k miles has been flawless year 'round and is still fun to drive.
Shattering sunroofs (for no apparent reason) are fairly unusual, but data shows that these failures are more common in Hyundai-based vehicles than any other manufacturer. At least my insurance covered every penny of it. (Genesis and the local Hyundai dealer where I bought it were useless, and shockingly unaware that you could replace just the glass instead of the whole sunroof assembly).
I think the general feeling of many of us is that the cars are excellent; the dealers and Genesis, maybe not so much. Your mileage may vary.

I've had no electrical issues, and no rattles, even on our crappy NH secondary roads. Some others have had issues with a sunroof related rattle.

Thanks for your reply. Which new brake pads did you get?

At the time (back in 2019), the only available option I could find were the factory "Euro" metallic pads, so I had to buy them myself, for $400 (I think they're double that now). These were standard on the 2.0 Manual models and the limited Dynamic Edition model (but I guess on all European trims, because they expect their brakes to work and are apparently less offended by brake dust).
Luckily for you, there are now multiple options (EBC, Hawk and others I think) that aren't as expensive.

As a side question, do you think the the maintenance costs / parts cost for g70 are lower than bmw 440i?

For what it's worth in my 2019 G70 AWD 3.3T with 35,000 miles, I haven't had any brake issues the only issue I've had was with the sunroof occasionally rattling based on the weather.

have you tried to fix the sunroof issue?

Thanks!

It would be hard for me to say, since I do my own maintenance (just oil and filter changes so far), and I don't know what the maintenance schedule is for the BMW. However, having owned numerous 3 series vehicles, I suspect the costs would be similar. In fact, the BMW may be a bit cheaper for the first 3 (?) years if they still include normal maintenance for free. Out of warranty repairs would probably be more expensive for the BMW, but that's just a guess, which might be wrong based on the outrageous price for the Genesis brake pads.

I've had my 2019 3.3T Sport for over 2 years and 20k miles. I have had zero issues with anything. The brakes are original, I drive it harder than most, always in Sort mode, and they are fine.....

great to hear. how much do you think you spend a year, on average, for maintenance? ignore gas and insurance

got 2019 3.3t 62k miles, sport mode most of the time. id say <$500 a year on maintenance

I do full synthetic oil changes about every 5k miles. I switch out my summer and winter wheels myself. So, no upkeep beyond that. I bought a summer set of wheels and tires and just put on better tires for winter on the stock wheels. So I've spent over $4k on that, but would've only needed new tires at around $1k. Well, I did put in some KN drop in filters and replaced the cabin filter a couple times, but pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things. As I said, I run the car fairly hard, not beat, and can only drive in sport mode cuz the other modes feel like an Elantra and sport mode feels like it's supposed to. IMHO.

Going back to the original question, unless one of these has been beat to shit, they are pretty "cheap to keep", performance sedans.

Similar comment to the last poster. Have dedicated winters I swap myself and change my own oil. Bought mine new 10/2019 and its never been to the dealer except for 2 complimentary oil changes during the first 12-18 months.
