  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How many have had their headlights flicker off?

I've read about it before. Just happened to me when traveling around 50mph on a dark, unlit road. To be clear, this is the issue with the lights going out when activating a turn signal. To be honest, it scared the ever living shit out of me because I couldn't see for about a second or two.

I'm considering reporting this to NHTSA. Just wondering who else has experienced this.

I have had it happen once or twice but never when in auto mode. It only happened when using the turn signals.

I had this all the time when it was set to "on" but it won't do this on auto mode. I had my stalk replaced and then it hasn't done it anymore after that.

Never a problem in almost 40,000 miles.

My bad fellas. I meant to include that it only happened when using the turn signals and in "On". Haven't noticed it in "Auto".

I suspect there will be a recall for the switch. But I think you a correct, everyone that has the problem should report it.

To somebody who hasn't had this happen to them, I'd hate to ask them to turn their lights off when going down a road. It really sucks.

I'll report it tomorrow. Hopefully the majority on here, who have had the same issue, will report it as well.

I had them turn off randomly for a while, while the headlights were in the ON positions (not AUTO). I got to a point where I wanted to record them turn off with my phone camera, so I would have something to show to the dealer. Since this moment, they have not turned off once, even when I tried really hard. I have reported this to NHTSA and saw a few other people did.

I'm close to 36,000 miles, which is the expiration mileage for electronics/audio warranty. I hope the stalk is not covered under this, but rather under the 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Ideally, Hyundai needs to make a design change to prevent something from shorting out in the stalk, otherwise, they will just replace it with a part that is likely to develop the same problem in the future.

Its under the 60k warranty but I'm at 110k on my 2011.

I submitted my complaint today, just to have it logged. I will bring it up to Hyundai tomorrow when I bring it in for service for other issues that I'm having, but I don't suspect they will do anything since I cannot not duplicate it on a consistent basis.

It does it to my car but only when the parking lights are on and never when the headlights are on.

The daytime running lights (basically high beams running at lower power) turn off with the turn signal to make the turn signal more visible, but that is an intended feature.

The headlights turning off is not intented.

Sorry I did not mention DRL Flicker off but only Parking Light.
In headlight position, DRL and High Beam the light do not flicker off when the turn signal is on.
In my car this is what I find:
(1) OFF position
(2) Parking light position
(3) Headlight position
(4) Auto light/AFLS position (if equipped)

Sorry, I misunderstood what you wrote then. I have to check out which part of the headlight remains on in the 'parking' position. I thought it was:
OFF -> High beams in DRL mode (lower power to the bulbs), LED strip off
Parking -> same as OFF with addition of LED strip
ON -> Low beams ON and LED strip on
AUTO -> Switches between OFF and ON modes.

I am happy to have found this thread. I have a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. I realize this is a genesis forum, but it sounds like this electrical issue is on Hyundais in general. I have reported a very similar problem to the dealership several times over the past couple of years. I just got my car back for another fix (steering wheel wouldn't adjust) and of course, they couldn't repeat the problem of the electrical problem- I mention it each time I drop it off for warranty covered repairs. They also gave me the impression that they've never heard of this problem. But maybe I reported the problem incorrectly. I previously told Hyundai that my dash board lights would brighten when I used the turn signal. I think the dash board lights were brightening because my headlights were cutting off for a second and when your headlights are off, the dash lights are brighter for daytime use.

Last night, they went out for a few seconds. I was in traffic and on a well-lit road, but I could see I had no headlights on the car in front of me. I called the dealership as this was happening and told the service representative that my lights just went out. So I told him it used to be the dash lights brightened, but now that I got the car back, the headlights were impacted. So I think it's the same problem all along, but now that it's dark earlier, I can see my headlights going out in the reflection of my vehicle on the car in front of me. And again, last night, the guy I spoke to said he was not aware of any electrical problems related to the turn signal and headlights.

I just tried to repeat the problem and my headlights will not flicker. Does the car need to be moving? Thanks.

I wonder if this whole system is controlled by a small CPU control. And it has all this programmed. It has got confused with the "shut off" of the DRL light that the turn signal is on. Somehow it now shuts is all down instead of just the side DRL where the turn signal is flashing?

Stab in the dark, I admit. Too many controllers do too many tasks today.. May not be the turn stalk as the problem.

It appears that the people who were successful in duplicating the issue at the dealer, the replacement of the headlight stalk corrected the problem.

I had no issue with the dealer replacing mine. I guess it flickered when they checked it out or they were aware of the issue and just went ahead and did it. I took a video and it was hard to recreate until i found out where it would cause the problem. What i did to recreate the flicker was not to go from turn signal to turn signal where i would get a flicker every few minutes maybe if at all. Instead, simply going between right/left with the stalk without causing the light to go off would cause a flicker every few seconds

This has happened to me also in the "Fog Light On" position. Not in the "Auto" position. Dealer, of course, can't replicate the issue. In my situation it was not related to a turn signal. Any other thoughts on how to replicate problem?
